This complete freeware release presents a Cargolux Boeing 747-400 featuring General Electric engines, specially prepared for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It comes with a fully realized 3D exterior, authentic cargo textures, and an array of animations that closely replicate the performance and handling of a real-world freight operation. Cargolux, a renowned cargo carrier headquartered in Luxembourg, has been known for operating numerous 747-400 variants across extensive global routes, and this add-on carefully captures the finer details of that experience.
A Thorough Exploration of the 747-400 GE Model
The underlying 3D model is generously provided by Project Open Sky. Their dedicated work delivers a highly detailed fuselage profile, realistic engine inlets, and an accurate rendering of the flight control systems. Additionally, the selection of textures, curated by master texturer C. Vincent Cho, ensures that all prominent markings and finishes match the Cargolux livery.

Notable Exterior Additions
- Dynamic Shine – The aircraft skin incorporates reflective effects that adapt to varying light angles, giving a realistic metallic appearance.
- 3D Wheel Construction – Each wheel, including hubs and tires, is rendered in three dimensions for depth and accuracy.
- CA on L1 and L2 Door – Cabin access is visualized through openable entrances, replicating actual boarding procedures.
- Fully Reflective Texture – Different segments of the aircraft exhibit reflections based on distinct materials, offering a convincing metal sheen.
- Bright Night Lighting – Illuminated windows, navigation lights, and landing lights appear vividly in low-light conditions.
- Transparent Navigation Lens – Realistic light lens surfaces accentuate the external model’s fidelity.
Flight Dynamics and Animations
- Complete Control Surface Movements – Ailerons, rudders, and elevators function independently, showcasing proper deflection with pilot inputs.
- Independent Suspension and Gear Steering – Main landing gear elements pivot as they would on the real 747-400, enhancing ground maneuverability.
- Trim Animation – Horizontal stabilizer adjustments are visible during flight pitch corrections.
- Opening Passenger and Cargo Doors – Multiple hatches swing open to recreate genuine loading and boarding operations.
- Dynamic Wing Flex – The wings flex ergonomically under aerodynamic forces, reflecting changes in lift and turbulence.
- Tilting Bogies and Rolling Wheels – Main gear bogies tilt and the wheels rotate, especially noticeable during takeoff runs and landings.
- Thrust Reversers and Spoiler Control – Reverse thrust deployment and spoiler deflection are integrated, mirroring real flight profiles.
- Accurate Flight Dynamics (FDE) – Developed by Warren C. Daniel with advisement from Nick Peterson and Simon Ng Hin Tat, then rigorously tested by Project Open Sky members.
- Crash Effects – Contact with the ground beyond defined limits triggers realistic crash visuals and sounds.
