Why won't FSX detect Logitech/Saitek Multi and Radio Panels?
Fix Logitech/Saitek Multi and Radio Panels not detected by FSX: drivers, panel software, USB power, SimConnect and dark displays.
FSX and FSX: Steam Edition do not detect Logitech/Saitek Multi and Radio Panels as ordinary controllers. They need the model-specific Flight Panels software, its FSX integration component, SimConnect and adequate USB power. Check Windows first: if it sees the panel, repair FSX integration; if it does not, troubleshoot USB power, the driver or hardware.
Should the panels appear in FSX's controller list?
No. The Multi Panel and Radio Panel normally do not appear as assignable joysticks under FSX's Controls settings. Their knobs, buttons and displays are operated by external panel software communicating with the simulator through SimConnect.
Installing a yoke or throttle driver does not install support for every Saitek or Logitech panel. Each panel needs the appropriate Flight Panels package and an FSX integration component.
How can I tell why FSX is not detecting the panel?
The point at which detection fails usually identifies the faulty layer.

How do I fix a Logitech Multi Panel or Radio Panel not working in FSX?
Work from Windows towards FSX, changing one layer at a time so that a USB fault is not mistaken for a SimConnect problem.
Which Logitech software and drivers do the panels need?
Install the model-appropriate Logitech or legacy Saitek Flight Panels package, not just Logitech mouse software, a yoke driver or a general gaming-device application. Our model-specific panel driver and software guidance explains what to look for without relying on third-party download sites.
A mistake we see constantly is choosing a 32-bit installer because FSX is a 32-bit program. Where separate installers are offered, select the package matching the architecture of Windows. During installation, include FSX support and keep the simulator closed.
- Test one panel directly. Close FSX and any panel utilities, disconnect the other flight controls, and connect one panel to a rear USB port on the computer. Avoid the ports built into a yoke, an unpowered hub or a front-panel extension during diagnosis.
- Confirm Windows detection. Open Device Manager and watch for a new USB or human-interface device as the panel is connected and removed. A dark panel is not conclusive because its display may stay off until the panel software has connected to a running simulator.
- Repair or reinstall the Flight Panels package. Remove an obsolete or duplicate panel package only if one is present, restart Windows, and install the correct package with FSX support selected. Follow our full panel connection and powered-aircraft test sequence if this is a first installation.
- Check USB power management. In Device Manager, open the properties of the relevant USB hub and clear

If two panels work separately but not together, use a separately powered hub. - Allow the FSX support component to run. Start FSX after installation and approve its security prompt for the panel component. If the prompt was previously rejected, repairing the panel software is safer than copying trust entries or XML blocks from another computer.
- Match Windows privilege levels. Run FSX and the panel application at the same elevation level. A panel utility running as administrator may fail to communicate properly with a normally launched simulator, and the reverse can also cause trouble.
- Close competing panel utilities. Only one application should control a Multi or Radio Panel at a time. Temporarily close alternative mapping, cockpit and hardware-management tools while testing the standard Logitech/Saitek integration.
- Repair SimConnect if Windows sees the hardware. The panels depend on the legacy SimConnect runtime expected by their FSX component. Repair that runtime through the simulator or panel installation rather than downloading a loose DLL and placing it in the FSX folder; multiple legitimate SimConnect runtimes can exist side by side.
- Test a default powered aircraft. Load the default Baron 58 in an engine-running state and make sure its battery, alternators and avionics are on. Change a radio frequency and an autopilot setting in the virtual cockpit, then compare the panel response.
- Add other USB devices one at a time. Once the first panel works, reconnect the second panel and then the remaining controls. The device that triggers a disconnect usually exposes a power-budget or software-ownership conflict.
How do I fix “malformed exe.xml/dll.xml detected”?
A malformed exe.xml or dll.xml means FSX cannot parse an add-on startup file, so the panel component may never load even though Windows detects the hardware.
Boxed FSX normally keeps these files under %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX. FSX: Steam Edition may use either an FSX or FSX-SE profile, particularly when boxed FSX has also been installed.
- Close FSX and make backups. Copy both XML files somewhere safe before editing or renaming anything.
- Identify the affected file. The error message may name it. Common faults include a truncated file, duplicate document sections, an unclosed tag or text pasted outside the main XML structure.
- Use renaming only as a test. Rename the suspected file with a
.baksuffix and start FSX. If the warning disappears, that file is the problem, but every add-on registered in it is now disabled. - Restore a valid copy or repair the responsible software. Let the Flight Panels installer recreate its entry where possible. Do not paste an XML block copied from another PC because its paths and installed components may differ.
A damaged exe.xml can stop several unrelated add-ons at once. Preserve entries belonging to other software when restoring the file rather than replacing everything just to repair the panel.
What changes with FSX: Steam Edition?
The panels can work with FSX: Steam Edition, but an older installer may target boxed FSX or write its startup entry into the wrong Windows profile.
Run Steam Edition once so that it creates its profile, close it, and then repair the Flight Panels software. If boxed FSX and Steam Edition coexist, confirm that the panel component points to the edition you actually launch. Do not assume that the folder named FSX belongs to boxed FSX or that FSX-SE must exist on every installation.
Why is the Logitech or Saitek panel display dark?
A dark panel display often means that the FSX connection or aircraft electrical system is inactive; it does not by itself prove that the panel is defective.
If both the Multi Panel and Radio Panel go dark together, investigate their shared USB power, panel application and SimConnect connection first. If one works normally while the other remains blank on the same computer, concentrate on the failing unit and its individual USB connection.
The Radio Panel normally needs a running panel component and powered aircraft avionics before its frequencies appear. For a fault limited to that unit, use our Radio Panel USB, driver and blank-display checks.

If both panels work with a default aircraft but fail with one add-on aircraft, the FSX installation is functioning. That aircraft probably uses custom gauges or autopilot and radio logic that the standard panel software cannot interpret.
What if only one panel is detected?
If one panel works fully, FSX integration and SimConnect are probably operational, so reinstalling FSX is unlikely to help.
Move the failing unit to the working panel's port without changing anything else. If the fault follows the port, investigate USB power or the port; if it follows the panel across several known-good ports and another computer, suspect that panel's driver, cable or hardware.
Do I need Logitech Download Assistant at startup?
No. An entry specifically named Logitech Download Assistant is an update-checking component and is not what makes the Flight Multi Panel, Radio Panel or Switch Panel communicate with FSX.
Disabling that assistant at Windows startup should not stop the panels. Do not disable similarly named Flight Panels applications or the FSX startup entry in exe.xml, because those may be the actual runtime components required by the hardware.
Does this also fix a Logitech/Saitek Switch Panel not working?
Yes, most USB, Flight Panels software, XML and SimConnect checks also apply to the Switch Panel because FSX does not treat it as an ordinary assignable joystick.
The Switch Panel has no numeric display, so diagnose its switches and indicator lights rather than expecting it in the FSX controller list. Test it with a powered default aircraft; if the Multi and Radio Panels work but the Switch Panel does not, focus on that unit's USB connection and model-specific software rather than reinstalling the shared simulator components.
