This represents c/n 426 as it would have appeared in the colors of New Holland Airways DC-5 VH-ARD circa 1948. This aircraft was originally ordered by british Airways in 1939 but the order was cancelled and the delivery position was transferred to KLM. It was delivered to the West Indies division of KLM in May 1940. It was registered as PJ-AIZ. It was shipped in June 1941 to the KLM East Indies division in Jakarta to become PK-ADC. It served with KLM in Indonesia from 9/29/1941 until escaping from Bandoeng to Darwin overnight Jan. 1-2, 1942. It was turned over to the USAAF and eventually operated extensively for the Allied Directorate of Air Transport mainly carrying cargo on the Australian east coast and into New Guinea by A.N.A. under contract. It carried the callsign VHCXC during this time. It was finally sold to A.N.A. in 1945 and operated by A.N.A. until being stored in 1946. It was sold in 1948 to a group operating as New Holland Airways, a charter company. After a short time the aircraft was involved in transporting Italian immigrants to Australian and became unserviceable in Rome. It was sold to a purchasing agent of the Israeli government and flown to Israel. It served with the Israeli Air Force until 1949. It was the last remaining DC-5.
