This add-on offers a faithful recreation of Trans-Canada Air Lines’ historic L-1049C, originally delivered in 1954. The repaint showcases aircraft CF-TGE, which has been restored by the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Although the base model is not included, flight simulation enthusiasts can locate and install Manfred Jahn and his team's Lockheed Super G Constellation package from the Fly Away Simulation mod library. Created by Matthew Anderson, this Trans-Canada Air Lines repaint is intended for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 but can also be adapted for use in other simulators that support the L-1049 series.

Historic Context of CF-TGE

Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA), established as Canada’s flag carrier, was an early operator of Lockheed’s Super Constellation series. Many of these aircraft were upgraded over time, and some, like CF-TGE, saw several conversions before eventually being phased out in the early 1960s in favor of jet-powered alternatives like the DC-8. TCA formally rebranded as Air Canada in 1968, yet the legacy of its propeller-driven fleet lives on through museum exhibits and simulation projects.

Key Details of the Aircraft

The L-1049C was part of the Lockheed Constellation family, renowned for advanced pressurization systems and long-range capabilities. During its operational tenure, CF-TGE served as a pivotal aircraft, transporting passengers and cargo across North America and beyond. This repaint aims to preserve that exact appearance from its debut era, including authentic markings and precise color schemes.

Adding the Repaint to Your Simulator

Below is a concise guide for installing these Trans-Canada Air Lines textures. Make certain that you have the appropriate Lockheed Super G Constellation base pack—developed by Manfred Jahn and his team—already installed:

  • Locate your Lockheed_L1049 folder. For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, open the “Aircraft” directory and find the original L-1049G folder. If using a different sim variant, adapt these instructions accordingly.
  • Copy the texture.tge folder and place it within the main L-1049G folder.
  • Open the aircraft.cfg file and add the following entry. Ensure you alter “X” to match the next available number in your [fltsim.x] sequence.

Went through many owners between 1961-2005. It was sold to the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington in 2005. It was restored betweeen 2007 to 2009 back in her TCA colors. She is now sitting in Seattle, Washington ready to be put on display."

Customization Notes

To display hubcaps on the forward gear assembly, open the texture.tge folder. Then remove or rename the default wings_t file, and rename wings_t(alternate) to wings_t. This change will enable the nosewheel hubcap texture.

Authorship and Credits

This repaint—crafted by Matthew Anderson—owes its fidelity to the Lockheed Super G Constellation base model developed by Manfred Jahn and his team. Enthusiasts can explore more liveries and essential files for this add-on through the Fly Away Simulation mod repository. Here, the spirit of Trans-Canada Air Lines endures in virtual skies, allowing flight simulation users to experience the era of classic piston-powered commercial aviation first-hand.
