This freeware repaint introduces a customized Wanganui Aeroclub livery specifically adapted to the default Cessna 172 in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It reflects the real-world markings of ZK-EWA and includes accurate color distribution and design features. The original work was developed by Jon Murchison, with support from ARNZ, and it requires the standard C172 model files, which you can obtain from the Fly Away Simulation library. The outcome delivers a crisp representation of this classic training aircraft, operated by a well-known aeroclub based in Wanganui, located on the North Island of New Zealand.

Details on This Unique Exterior Design

The exterior textures replicate the signature Wanganui Aeroclub color scheme seen on their reliable Cessna 172, designated ZK-EWA. This specific tail number belongs to an aviation training hub recognized for instructing many new pilots in a scenic coastal region. The livery focuses on precise alignment of stripes, correct door markings, and accurate logo placement. Pilots who choose to fly this repaint will notice attention to rivet lines and subtle weathering effects for an authentic look. Moreover, this C172 model is known industry-wide for its ease of handling, efficiency, and strong structural build, reflecting its decades of use worldwide for pilot instruction and recreational flight. Since 1955, more than 35,000 airframes of this model have rolled off the production line, making it among the most prolific single-engine aircraft ever produced.

Installation Procedure

  • Copy the Texture.EWA folder into your FSX installation path, typically found at ...\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172.
  • Access the aircraft.cfg document within that same directory. Then, paste the following block of text after the last livery entry, increasing the [fltsim.x] number accordingly (e.g., [fltsim.5] becomes [fltsim.6] if 5 is already used).

description="A stable and trustworthy plane, most pilots have logged at least a few hours in a Cessna 172, since it's the most widely available aircraft in the rental fleet, and is used by most flight schools. Since the first prototype was completed in 1955, more than 35,000 C172s have been produced, making it the world's most popular single-engine plane. One of Cessna's first tricycle-gear airplanes, the 172 quickly became the favorite of a growing class of business pilots. Its reliability and easy handling (along with thoughtful engineering and structural updates) have ensured its continued popularity for decades."

This repaint by Jon Murchison does not include the default model, so remember to download the base C172 package from the Fly Away Simulation library if needed. Feel free to explore the scenic potential around Wanganui by taking off on local flights from the region, and immerse yourself in the vantage views.
