Quick Look at the Real?World F33A
The F33A represents the straight?tail evolution of Beechcraft’s iconic Bonanza line. Powered by the 285 hp Continental IO?520?BB, the aircraft cruises comfortably at roughly 172 KTAS while offering six?seat capacity. Certified for basic aerobatics and regularly used for instrument training, the F33A combines robust structural design with a surprisingly sporty handling envelope—a personality accurately captured by the Carenado rendition.

Step?by?Step Installation – Adding the Livery Safely
- Navigate to
...\SimObjects\Airplanes\
and locate the folder labeled Carenado F33A Bonanza (folder name varies slightly depending on installer options). - Drop the supplied
texture.N311MW
directory inside that aircraft directory so it sits alongside existingtexture.
folders pluspanel
,sound
, etc. - Open the file
aircraft.cfg
in any plain?text editor. Scroll to the last repaint block and paste the following lines directly underneath, then adjust the sequential index:
[fltsim.XX] ; replace XX with next consecutive number title=Bonanza F33A N311MW sim=Carenado_F33 model= panel= sound= texture=N311MW kb_checklists=F33BONANZA_CHECK kb_reference=F33BONANZA_REF atc_id=N311MW ui_manufacturer=Beechcraft ui_type=Bonanza F33A ui_typerole="Single Engine Prop" ui_createdby="Carenado" ui_variation=N311MW description="Bonanza F33A (CE?1155) repaint by Kevin Michael." visual_damage=1
- Save the edited
aircraft.cfg
(ensure UTF?8 or ANSI encoding, not rich?text). - Launch FSX. In the aircraft selection menu, filter by “Beechcraft”. The new N311MW paint should appear complete with thumbnail.
Notable Texture Details
- Metallic leading?edge polish reflecting specular light maps for more realistic sun glint.
- AO (ambient occlusion) baked around rivet lines for additional depth without impacting performance.
- Subtle cabin upholstery color shift to complement the blue?white exterior stripe scheme.
Compatibility and Performance Remarks
The repaint leverages Carenado’s native PBR?ready material definitions, so there is no FPS impact compared with the default liveries. All custom bitmaps are saved in DXT5 format with alpha channels preserved, ensuring clear transparencies on windows and light lens surfaces.
Recommended Simulator Settings
- Texture Resolution
- Set to “Very High (2048x2048)” or better to avoid down?sampling artefacts.
- Aircraft Reflections
- Enable “High” for polished leading edges to display properly.
- Dynamic Lights
- Optional; affect taxi/landing lights but not the repaint itself.
With the repaint installed, pilots can take advantage of the Bonanza’s famed balanced control harmony while sporting a refreshed registration suited for cross?country or IFR practice sessions.
