MSFS Palma de Mallorca Airport (LEPA)

Palma de Mallorca Airport (LEPA) scenery recreates Son Sant Joan for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 with custom terminals, jetways and night-lit interiors. Detailed aprons, ground markings, taxiway lighting, navigation equipment and airport buildings complement military facilities, static aircraft and selected roads and car parks, while an included GSX profile supports ground operations.

Expert Overview

I flew into EuroScene’s Palma de Mallorca in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, then spent time around the passenger stands. The aircraft-type stop markings and custom jetways gave the apron a convincing airport-specific character, particularly around Terminal A’s Sixt-branded gates. At night, I found the visible terminal interiors added welcome depth to the gate views, although that lighting treatment does not extend to the main building or control tower.

The scenery’s scope reaches beyond the terminals, with a cargo facility, fire station, Globalia hangar and selected landside roads and parking areas. Raye’s included GSX profile complements the stand work. I treated the custom VDGS poles as visual details rather than working docking guidance; functional operation is not claimed. AI runway-direction behaviour also remains a documented limitation.

EuroScene’s freeware Palma de Mallorca Airport (LEPA) scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator recreates Son Sant Joan with custom terminals, jetways, apron detail and night-lit interiors. The package also supports Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and includes a GSX profile by Raye.

Son Sant Joan: Terminals, Aprons and Airport Buildings

Palma de Mallorca serves Mallorca in Spain’s Balearic Islands, making it a natural destination for Mediterranean holiday traffic. EuroScene brings the airport into the simulator with custom 3D models for every terminal, selected hangars, the control tower and VOR/ILS antennas [navigation and instrument-landing-system equipment]. Custom ground textures, markings, taxiway signs, lighting and parking positions extend the work across the airfield.

The terminal interiors feature night lighting and remain visible from both inside and outside; however, the main building and control tower do not include this treatment. Meanwhile, custom-modelled and textured jetways provide the gate infrastructure, including Sixt-branded examples at Terminal A. EuroScene also models portions of the surrounding roads and car parks rather than claiming complete coverage of the airport’s surroundings.

  • Passenger stands: Aircraft-type stop markings, adjusted parking positions and custom VDGS poles [visual docking guidance system supports] add detail around the gates. The poles represent scenery models, not a stated functional docking-system feature.
  • Service buildings: The scenery includes the airport fire station, private terminal, cargo terminal, Globalia hangar and parking garage.
  • Airfield equipment: A radar model near runway 06R, taxiway edge-line reflectors and ambient illumination around taxiway signs supplement the ground layout.
  • Military area: The military apron currently provides only three helicopter parking spaces alongside a custom hangar. Later updates also add custom aircraft models at the military hangar and fire-testing area, with thanks to TigerCat.

Development Changes Through September 2026

EuroScene developed this as a first scenery project, working alone on the original airport. Subsequent releases refine the buildings, stand layout and lighting, while Raye contributes the GSX profile. The following history consolidates the repeated entries in the developer’s release notes.

2026: Terminal A and Stand Layout Revisions

  • v2026.09.14 — September 14, 2026, current release: Updates stands 103 and 103B to match their real-world arrangement, improves selected ground textures and adds the custom aircraft models at the military hangar and fire-testing area. It also includes other minor fixes.
  • v2026.08.07 — August 7, 2026: Revises Terminal A to reflect real-life changes and updates the parking garage model. EuroScene also corrects taxiway lines, makes minor texture and taxiway-sign fixes, and attempts to assign airline codes to parking positions for more realistic AI traffic allocation.

2025: Simulator Compatibility and Airside Detail

  • v2025.08.05 — August 5, 2025: Adds Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 compatibility and minor adjustments.
  • v2025.06.01 — June 1, 2025: Improves gate-area night lighting, adds taxiway edge-line reflectors and introduces a custom cargo terminal. Model refinements focus particularly on jetways and air-conditioning units, alongside various minor fixes.
  • v2025.04.23 — April 23, 2025: Makes small corrections to ground markings and taxiway naming for BeyondATC.
  • v2025.04.19 — April 19, 2025: Adds the fire station, private terminal and military hangar. It removes lines crossing stand markings, introduces aircraft-type stopping marks and adds ambient taxiway-sign lighting. EuroScene also reduces the tower’s size for accuracy, adjusts selected parking positions to better fit the jetways and updates the GSX profile.

2024: Jetways, Runway Surfaces and Initial Fixes

  • v2024.11.26 — November 26, 2024: Adds Sixt jetways at Terminal A and makes minor scenery fixes.
  • v2024.11.23 — November 23, 2024: Introduces custom jetways to address insufficient reach and merges the GSX and non-GSX versions. It also removes or blocks gate A08 to reflect construction at the time, addresses a guardrail obstructing runway 24L’s PAPI [precision approach path indicator] on at least a temporary basis, and attempts to resolve the disappearing tower. Further changes restore disappearing Terminal D ground markings, slightly improve landside night lighting, refine the parking garage and Globalia hangar, and add the 06R radar and custom VDGS poles.
  • v2024.11.05 — November 5, 2024: Flattens the runways to correct bumpy terrain and fixes the misplaced A08 gate sign.
  • v2024.11.04.2 — November 4, 2024, initial release entry: Corrects Terminal A’s failure to appear in the non-GSX version.

Known Conflicts and Operational Limitations

  • Pink buildings or missing textures: EuroScene identifies extraction errors from excessively long file paths as a likely cause. Reported workarounds include using 7-Zip, shortening the archive filename and extracting somewhere other than directly into the Community folder.
  • Duplicate floodlights: The Andres3d airport lights mod will likely introduce overlapping floodlighting.
  • AI runway selection: AI aircraft do not appear to follow the intended runway-direction usage correctly.
  • Nearby city scenery: Ezro’s Palma City add-on causes terrain bumps and satellite-imagery conflicts to the left of runway 06L.
  • BeyondATC: Taxiway and runway naming/marking issues remain on the developer’s known-issues list despite earlier naming corrections. The notes identify a separate external fix for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
