This download contains 4 texture sets for the A2A P-51D representing aircraft of the 339th Fighter Group bsed at Fowlmere between March 1944 and August 1945. They can only be used with the FSX updated version as they are 2048 x 2048 textures.

P-51D-5-NA 44-11325, 'Marinell' was assigned to Capt. Bradford Stevens but was lost in a crash landing on 13th August 1944, killing the pilot Lt Myer Winkelmann. After many years as a derelict it was rebuilt by Maurice Hammond in 2008.The aircraft is depicted as it would have appeared in 1944, coded 5Q-D, as is most likely from the evidence (see Peter Randall's site).

P-51D-5-NA 44-11325 'Princess Pat' was assigned to Lt. Philip E Petitt. Shot down by a B-17 over Germany 7th April 1945; the pilot Lt. Davie MacKenzie was taken prisoner.

P-51D 44-14656 'Pauline' was the personal mount of Lt. Col Joe Thury, Group Commander. Badly shot up by ground fire on 15th April 1945, and subsequently scrapped.

P-51D-20-NA 44-72152, the last of several 'Tar Heels' flown by Capt. James Starnes. 'Tar Heel' returned Stateside but was lost in a mid-air collision with P-51D 44-72537 near San Antonio TX on 31st May 1945. Both pilots were killed.

These texture sets contain only the five external textures; all other textures can either be added from existing texture folders or you can put them into a 'texture.shared' folder. The 'texture.cfg' file within each texture folder is directed there.

Copy the 4 folders to your SimObjectsAirplanesWWII_FIGHTERS_P51D folder then copy and paste the following into the aircraft.cfg file after your last [fltsim.xx] entry.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
