Glasgow Airport

Glasgow Airport (EGPF) gets a smarter AI-friendly layout with expanded parking for larger airliners, airline-coded stands, added jetways, and extra taxiways and runway exits to cut runway occupancy and go-arounds. Clear taxiway signage supports smoother ATC guidance, while ground vehicle routes reduce conflicts in FSX.

Glasgow Airport (EGPF) Features improved parking, extra taxiways. By Colin Dietrich.

Installation:

Copy and paste/drag and drop the AFCAD file 'EGPF_ADE_FSX.bgl' into the 'Addon Scenery/Scenery' folder of your FSX installation. It should then require no further activation and the new airport layout will subsequently appear by default. Experienced AFCAD users may have their own folder into which they place additional AFCAD's, in which case, simply install it there. To remove the AFCAD delete the same file from the same folder.

Changes made to Glasgow Airport:

There is a list of real world airlines that use Glasgow Airport which you will find on the BAA website. Some of these use aircraft considerably larger than the default parking spaces will accept so some of the spaces have been enlarged. Extra parking spots have been added. Most of jetway served parking has been allocated airline parking codes. Some have not because the default AI, airline and GA, is quite frequent and will fill these unallocated spaces. To make it more interesting there are now jetways for some of these spaces which are not on the real airport. The mix of GA and airline AI causes problems in moving the aircraft around the airport so extra taxiways have been added to improve the flow. An extra runway turnoff has also been added for the airline traffic and two grass turnoffs for the short landing-run GA aircraft. This is to lessen the time that aircraft take to vacate the runway and reduces the go-arounds by a considerable factor. All extra turnoffs have taxiway signs so that instructions from ATC can be followed to get to the parking spots. The 'heavies' using the airport include Air Transat, Emirates, Globepan and Zoom. Other 'biggies' are Continental, Thompson, Icelandair and, though not listed on the website, Monarch. Busy daily users are Easyjet, British Airways, BMI Baby and Flybe and daily visits from Aer Lingus, KLM, and occasionally Air Malta and even Air Berlin (but I think my AI may need revising) make for a very busy airport. Airport vehicle traffic now have an expanded network of taxiways and should not cause any interaction between aircraft and vehicles.

I hope you find this AFCAD an improvement but if not simply delete it and the default airport will be back.

Acknowledgements:

All of the modifications to this airport were done using ADE by Jon Masterson which uses the Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK. ADE is currently under development and is continually improving. A public release version is anticipated at the end this month (November 2007).

My thanks also to the various members of the ADE testing group for their help. Additional thanks to WOAI and PAI for their aircraft and flight plans and to all who make their talents freely available to us.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
