This freeware release brings you a fully realized McDonnell Douglas MD-11 in the distinctive KLM livery, complete with a carefully rendered exterior model and an array of functional features. The development by iFDG (international Flightsim Design Group) incorporates realistic control animations, including flaps, flaperons, and other movable surfaces. It also showcases reflective textures, wing views, and an accurate lighting layout suitable for various scenarios.
Stunning Visual Details

Refined Exterior: This rendition adopts the modern KLM color scheme carried by registration PH-KCI. Each panel, door, and aerodynamic surface has been finely modeled, while the added winglets and extended tail cone accentuate the MD-11’s unique long-range tri-engine design. KLM, the flag carrier of the Netherlands, operated these wide-cabin trijets for both passenger and cargo configurations, making them a notable part of the airline’s widebody fleet.
High-Quality Texturing: Reflective mapping highlights the aircraft’s fuselage in natural and artificial lighting conditions. All markings and lines align correctly with KLM’s branding, ensuring a faithful finish. The livery work by Ben Jones exemplifies attention to detail and adds to the visual authenticity when viewed from multiple angles within the simulator.
Advanced Aerodynamic and System Features
Efficient Wing Technology: The MD-11 benefits from optimized aerodynamics that include a reprofiled wing trailing edge and integral winglets. These enhancements enhance lift and reduce drag, which translate into greater distance capabilities. With the optional extended-range (ER) setup, the aircraft can handle especially long intercontinental routes, a feature KLM utilized extensively.
Tri-Jet Powerplants: Operators could equip the MD-11 with different engine choices, such as the General Electric CF6-80C2 or Pratt & Whitney 4460/4462 series. Each powerplant variant delivers excellent thrust performance while conserving overall fuel consumption for extended flight spans. This freeware model replicates these powerplants’ external characteristics.
Cockpit Innovations
Inside, the real-world aircraft introduced a fully automated flight deck, featuring six cathode ray tube displays, dual flight management capabilities, and a dual digital autopilot with fail-operational redundancy. The [dual flight management system] (a setup that blends navigation, performance optimization, and guidance) significantly reduces workload. Instrumentation in this add-on captures those systems in subtle yet effective ways to enhance immersion in FS2004. Industry-standard linked wheel-and-column controls are also reflected in the overall modeling, aligning with the original MD-11’s design.
Historical and Technical Context
The MD-11 program first launched on December 30, 1986. Assembly commenced on March 9, 1988, leading to its maiden flight on January 10, 1990. After certification on November 8 of that same year, deliveries began December 7. Compared to the earlier DC-10 airframe, the MD-11’s fuselage is notably longer, carrying up to 50 more passengers or accommodating a mix of passengers and cargo simultaneously. KLM utilized the MD-11 to expand its long-haul network while enjoying the aircraft’s cargo-friendly lower deck, which provided operators with extra revenue potential.
