Editorial

A popular brand and style of aircraft, the De Havilland DH 114 is an aircraft that I have always had the intention of trying out within FSX. With this mod, I got the perfect chance to do so with this deeply impressive remake of the old DH 114 which would give me the perfect opportunity to see what I thought.

Preview screenshot

This served for more than three decades and was used for many years, so how did I find flying what many would consider to be a rich and welcome part of aviation history over the years? What did I take away from using this piece of history?

The Detail

The first thing that I was captivated by was the quality of the design. From my own research and comparisons this is about as authentic as you are likely to find these days in terms of the way that an aircraft should look.

It’s got the little features in the textures to make them look less flat and stuck on, and it comes with multiple colorings so that you can fly this model with your own choice of stripe. I love the green one, personally!

Another major factor about the design, for me at least, was the impressive dedication to the detail of even the most minor of features. From the way that the font fits with the real thing to the authenticity of its overall control and design, this aircraft holds itself together well and manages to look great whilst it does so.

Performance

I have to really praise the way that it flies, too. The flight dynamics are exceptionally handled and give you an easy, effective way to look after yourself and enjoy your flights in general. Not only do they make it much easier for you to understand and enjoy your flights in general, it also helps you stay on the right side of realism.

This will really help you fly the aircraft the way that you would like with the right level of performance being provided across the board to make it handle the way that it should. Given its age as a piece of hardware it will feel a tad dated and hard to manage at first, for sure, but you will quite quickly grow used to its own little quirks and unique charms.

Whilst it’s not the perfect piece of aviation history, it’s got a major part to play and made a lot of fun for me to fly. The best part about it though was getting to enjoy that unique side of aviation history, falling into line with something that just feels like it’s so much fun to fly around with and try out.

If you want to enjoy something new, then, make sure you pick this up – even if you are new to the aircraft itself.

Nice airplane to fly but tricky when you have no map unless you lose your instrument pane or pause in mid flight periodicallyl. Suggest that might be an option to fix unless it was planned that way to make it as difficult as those that flew real time without the benefit of GPS. Gives you a good feeling after a successful flight though.

Southwest Airlines is a very fun Bono plane

Hi,

Nice plane. Not so easy to install. Iused to fly the Dove which panel has been used for the Heron. The problem is there's no thrust panel. So impossible to fly or even start the engines.

Is the DH104 Dove compatible with FSX ?

Thks for your help.

First off thanks to Frenchieak2 for helping with getting rid of the flying groundcrew by simply turning on the lighs (hit L key). For the guages to work, go to panel find the gauges Cgi file and unzip it. Take the two files JH.Heron and Sav_Dove_Devon and copy and place them into the Guage file. That should fix it.

I also have cones and the trailer and see no instruments on my panel (??).

I have not been able to make this download work in any situation. I have tried numerous times to load it and it still will not work, and if it tries to work then there are no directions on how to remove the chock blocks and other accutrements that go along with this download. I am disappointed that this historic airline does not work as I enjoy the slow and low sometimes. Please work to fix the problems in this download.
Frenchieak2Tue, 20 Mar 2007 20:59:15 GMT
This download was a little confusing at first... The cones and trailer moved with the airplane during taxiing and even during flight, but once I turned on the lights they went away. Otherwise it was a good download. I would have given it a 10 if it had a virtual cockpit.
