FSX Mediterranean Island Hopping

Mediterranean Island Hopping delivers two curated sets of sequential flights for FSX, guiding pilots from Malaga through the Balearics, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily and Malta, then across the Ionian and Aegean islands to Cyprus. It includes detailed flight plans, briefings with background notes and altitude guidance, plus screenshots, mixing IFR and VFR hops.

This file includes both sets of flights, set 1 and set 2.

These flights are not based on real flight schedules, though airlines and aircraft suggested are those which are associated with this region. The flights are intended to be flown in the order given, since they follow a sequence. However, in order to avoid long (and boring?) sea crossings, I have organised the flights into groups, each group having a suitable jumping-off point within reach of the first island in that group.

I have set up weather conditions, but you are welcome to use whatever conditions, including real-world weather, you choose. If you do change the weather, the approaches will possibly differ from mine.

I recommend either printing out the document or, alternatively, copying each flight into the aircraft's reference file (one at a time, then delete ready for the next one). This way, you have them at your fingertips (literally).

The included FLIGHT BRIEFING folder contains background notes on places visited, as well as my suggestions for carrying out the various flights (altitudes given are particularly important).

The flights follow (in groups) a course along the Mediterranean, starting at Malaga in Spain (for the Balearic Islands) and finishing at Cyprus.

Set 1

A series of flights exploring the islands of the Mediterranean. This first set contains two groups, starting with the Balearic Islands of Spain and continuing to Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, and Malta. Appropriate airlines are used, along with airport and other sceneries, with full details of downloads required. All flight plans are included, with full briefings for each flight, containing background information and tips for the pilot. A set of screen shots is also included. By Gordon Wilkinson.

Most of the flights are under IFR conditions and ATC will vector you (eventually!) to the best positions for landing. Most of the aircraft used are larger than those in my UKIH flights, giving you the opportunity to handle heavier metal!

Of course, all of these islands figure in travel agents' brochures.

Set 2

Mediterranean Island Hopping Set 2 continues from Set 1 with a series of flights round the Greek Ionian Islands and the islands in the Aegean Sea. All flight plans are included along with flight briefings giving information about places visited and tips to the pilot to assist in the flying. A set of screen shots is also included. Full instructions are in the PLEASE START HERE folder. By Gordon ("Jock") Wilkinson. (See also MEDITERRANEAN_ISLAND_HOPPING_SET1.ZIP).

Most of the flights are under VFR conditions since they tend to be quite short hops. Longer flights will be IFR. Most of the aircraft used are larger than those in my UKIH flights, giving you the opportunity to handle heavier metal!

This second set starts with the Ionian Islands, moves on to the Aegean Islands and the Dodecanese Islands before ending in the Eastern Mediterranean at Cyprus. Flight numbers continue from the first Set.

Of course, all of these islands figure in travel agents' brochures.

SCENERY:

I have UTX Europe and GEX Europe installed as well as the scenery mentioned in the recommended downloads below. I also use Traffic X. These are what you see in the screenshots folder. I happen to like seeing relevant airline textures and attractive airports, so I have searched high and low to find them if possible. I have made the recommended downloading less of a chore by only including the relevant ones for each stage ("BEFORE YOU FLY"). Carefully copy the links into the search box as indicated.

INSTALLATION:

Open FLIGHTS folder, then copy and paste all of the contents into your DOCUMENTS >>>FLIGHT SIMULATOR X FILES.

Sorry for my ignorance, but should I assume that to install these so-called addons the textures from the original game must already be present, right?

But if I don’t have them, can someone tell me where to find them other than in the original installation that costs more than 80 euros? Thanks

Dear all When oh when are we going to get some decent scenery of Malta and Cyprus?. The offerings I have seen have been sadly lacking.
