This repaint of an Air China Boeing 747-200 Combi enhances the AI Aardvark model with a detailed texture set designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It showcases the airline’s distinctive color scheme and merges realistic details with optimized performance for AI traffic. Model by AI Aardvark, repaint by Pantee Farhangi. Textures only; the base package for this Boeing 747-200 series must be acquired from the Fly Away Simulation mod library.
Highlighting the Exterior Artwork
This customized livery shows off Air China’s classic tail insignia, carefully matched fuselage striping, and precise window placements. The Boeing 747-200 combi version historically served both passengers and cargo, giving it a unique appeal for virtual airline routes. The repaint is intended for AI traffic, yet the fidelity of the artwork ensures it looks authentic up close as well.

Placing the Texture Files
- Place the texture.airchina directory into your AIA_747_200_PW folder. Remember that the essential AI Aardvark base model is a separate download.
- Open your aircraft.cfg file and insert the supplied [fltsim.x] entry. Ensure each additional livery entry follows a proper numbering sequence with no duplicates or gaps.
- Use flight planning utilities, such as Ttools by Lee Swordy, to incorporate this Air China variant into AI schedules. This step ensures the 747-200 combi appears in relevant flight plans.
Accommodating Various Simulator Setups
Although primarily tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, this repaint can also function under FS2002 if you swap out the aia_747_200.air and aircraft.cfg with those found inside the fs2002fde folder included in the base package. Doing so adjusts the flight characteristics and maintains stable AI performance in that earlier platform.
Technical Considerations for AI Performance
The AI Aardvark Boeing 747-200 model employs multiple LOD (Levels of Detail), which intelligently reduces polygon count as your viewpoint increases in distance. This approach ensures efficient frame rates during busy traffic scenarios around gates and taxiways. In contrast, certain GMAX-based models may seem attractive for close-up viewing but can become resource-intensive when numerous aircraft populate the same area.
Fine-Tuning Flight Dynamics
Flight dynamics on AI jets often require small adjustments to balance both takeoff and landing behavior. AI Aardvark’s parameters cater to smooth ground operations, with touchdown regions designed to quickly vacate runways and support seamless traffic flow. If you crave lengthier floating upon touchdown, experiment with cruise_lift, parasite_drag, and induced_drag entries in the aircraft configuration file to align with your preference.
Insights on the Boeing 747-200 and Air China
The Boeing 747-200 brought higher thrust engines, additional range, and significant cargo capacity to global airlines. Known for its adaptability, the combi variant carried both passengers and freight, often serving intercontinental routes. Air China, having operated various 747 models, relied on this airframe for long-haul services and cargo operations, making it an iconic part of the carrier’s fleet history.
This repaint, prepared by Pantee Farhangi, merges the esteemed heritage of Air China with AI Aardvark’s optimized design. By combining authenticity with streamlined performance, it offers an appealing way to populate virtual air traffic environments with a recognizable and visually engaging wide-body aircraft.
