This freeware repaint brings the historically significant Finnish Air Force DO-2 livery to Microsoft Flight Simulator X, meticulously adapted by Tim Scharnhop for the Douglas DC-2 payware model. Originally flown by Aero O/Y (Finnair) in the 1940s, this aircraft later joined the Finnish Air Force and served in photogrammetric roles until the mid-1950s. Purchasing the DC-2 package from the Uiver Team X supports the Aviodrome, the renowned aviation museum in the Netherlands, as proceeds from that package go toward preserving Dutch aeronautical heritage.

Highlighting the Aircraft’s Background

Douglas DC-2 (Model 115K) served multiple operators before its days in Finland. Under the Czech registration OK-AIB, it flew commercial routes before Aero O/Y took ownership and designated it as OH-LDA. Once sold to the Finnish Air Force in 1949, it was renamed DO-2, undertaking specialized mapping missions until 1956. This add-on reflectively honors those years by replicating the paint scheme worn during its post-war service, giving flight simulation enthusiasts a detailed look at aviation’s evolving mid-century era.

Key Steps for Installation

  1. Extract dc2X_finaf.ZIP to a temporary location. Make sure any existing folder structures remain intact.
  2. Locate the folder named texture.finaf and place it inside the Douglas_DC2_X directory found under Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes.
  3. Use a text editor to open aircraft.cfg. Below the final [fltsim.XX] entry, insert the snippet shown here, making sure you adjust the XX to the next sequential number:

[fltsim.XX]

Once that entry is added, save the file. You can then select this aircraft repaint in your simulator’s aircraft menu the next time you launch Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Developer Credits

Several individuals contributed to the authentic simulation of this Douglas DC-2: Tom Falley and Rob Cappers collaborated on flight dynamics, while Alexander Schreijnders, Jan Visser, and Rob Cappers led model design. The rich textures come courtesy of Tim Scharnhop, Gerrit Kranenbarg, and Jan Visser, and the cockpit environment was shaped by contributions from multiple developers, including HansJoerg Naegele for XML and DLL programming, and Roland Berger for specialized effects.

Additional Notes

Please remember this repaint does not include the actual payware DC-2 model. To fly with this livery, you will need to purchase the DC-2 package from the Uiver Team X. All authors deserve sincere appreciation for their efforts in preserving aviation history within the flight simulation community.
