Yes—see which DLSS 4 features MSFS 2024 supports, which RTX GPU you need, how to enable them and why Multi Frame Generation may be missing.
Yes. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 supports NVIDIA DLSS 4 features, including DLSS Super Resolution and, on GeForce RTX 50-series cards, Multi Frame Generation. It does not present a single DLSS 4 switch: the available options depend on the RTX generation, NVIDIA driver, simulator build and NVIDIA App profile.
Which DLSS 4 features work in MSFS 2024?
DLSS 4 is a collection of technologies rather than one graphics mode. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 may label its controls simply as NVIDIA DLSS and Frame Generation, even when a newer DLSS model or Multi Frame Generation is active.
| Hardware | Available DLSS features |
|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 20 or 30 series | DLSS Super Resolution and DLAA; no Frame Generation |
| GeForce RTX 40 series | DLSS Super Resolution, DLAA and standard Frame Generation |
| GeForce RTX 50 series | DLSS Super Resolution, DLAA and Multi Frame Generation, subject to the installed driver and game profile |
| Non-RTX GPU or console | No NVIDIA DLSS support |
On RTX 50 hardware, Multi Frame Generation can insert more than one generated frame between traditionally rendered frames. RTX 40 cards can generate one intermediate frame but cannot use the RTX 50-exclusive multi-frame modes.
The absence of a version number inside the simulator is normal. Our explanation of how newer DLSS generation names map to MSFS settings covers why NVIDIA's branding does not always appear as a matching menu option.
How do I enable DLSS 4 in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?
Enable DLSS through the simulator's graphics settings, then configure Frame Generation for the capabilities of your GPU.
- Update the simulator and NVIDIA driver. Install the latest compatible Game Ready driver and allow the NVIDIA App to refresh its MSFS 2024 profile.
- Check the active GPU. On a laptop, confirm that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is running on the discrete RTX GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- Select NVIDIA DLSS. In the simulator's graphics options, choose DLSS as the anti-aliasing or upscaling method. Start with Quality mode; use Balanced if GPU load remains too high.
- Enable Frame Generation. RTX 40 cards use standard Frame Generation. On RTX 50 hardware, select a Multi Frame Generation multiplier if the simulator exposes one, or use the supported MSFS 2024 override in the NVIDIA App.
- Restart after changing overrides. Driver-level model or Frame Generation changes may not take effect until the simulator is relaunched.
Frame Generation also depends on Windows hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. If its control is missing or greyed out, enable that feature in Windows Graphics settings, restart the PC and check again. Our complete frame-generation setup and troubleshooting steps cover the requirements for both MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020.
Why is DLSS 4 or Multi Frame Generation missing?
A missing DLSS 4 label is not itself a fault; a missing DLSS or Frame Generation control usually points to hardware, driver or Windows configuration.
- The GPU does not support that feature: all RTX generations can use DLSS upscaling, but RTX 40 is required for standard Frame Generation and RTX 50 for Multi Frame Generation.
- The driver or NVIDIA App profile is stale: update both, rescan for games and relaunch the simulator.
- Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is disabled: Frame Generation may remain unavailable until it is enabled and Windows is restarted.
- The simulator is using integrated graphics: this is common on laptops with hybrid graphics.
- You are flying in VR: do not expect Multi Frame Generation to operate like it does on a conventional display. Use DLSS Super Resolution or DLAA according to headset performance.
- You expected a Control Panel switch: DLSS is selected in the simulator or NVIDIA App, not forced through a generic anti-aliasing setting. Use our recommended NVIDIA driver settings for MSFS without overriding the simulator's own DLSS controls.
Which DLSS setting should I use?
Start with DLSS Quality at 1440p or 4K, then reduce the preset only when the GPU is the limiting factor.
- DLAA: choose this for native-resolution image quality when ample GPU headroom is available.
- DLSS Quality: the best general balance for cockpit displays, distant scenery and performance.
- DLSS Balanced: useful when dense airports, clouds or high output resolutions keep the GPU near full load.
- DLSS Performance: reserve it for very high resolutions or cases where the faster presets are necessary; fine cockpit text and distant objects can lose clarity.
Frame Generation needs a stable underlying frame rate. It makes motion look smoother but does not remove a main-thread bottleneck or make aircraft systems update faster. If controls feel delayed or glass-cockpit text shows artefacts, reduce the frame-generation multiplier, keep NVIDIA Reflex enabled when offered, or compare DLSS Quality with DLAA.
Does DLSS 4 improve image quality or only frame rate?
DLSS Super Resolution can improve anti-aliasing while reconstructing a higher-resolution image, whereas Frame Generation primarily increases displayed smoothness. DLAA uses the DLSS anti-aliasing model at native resolution and therefore improves image quality without gaining the same rendering-performance advantage.
For MSFS 2024, judge the settings from the cockpit rather than the external camera alone. Small avionics text, moving map details, propeller edges and objects crossing the windscreen expose reconstruction or generated-frame artefacts most clearly.
