This freeware repaint showcases the Flight Simulator Network (FSN) livery applied to the default Cessna 172 within Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It incorporates a minimal set of texture files referencing default assets, making it both convenient and efficient. Created by developer Greg T. Miller, with repaint design input by YokerPoker, this package highlights an enduring training aircraft that has formed the backbone of many pilot training programs since the mid-1950s. The add-on requires you to use the standard C172 that is already installed, as the base model files are not included here.

Distinctive Appearance in FSN Colors

The Skyhawk 172 remains one of the most recognized single-engine platforms worldwide. With its stable control behavior and proven robustness, the C172 typically appears in the hangars of countless flight schools. This repaint presents the timeless lines of the aircraft in FSN markings, introducing a unique but neatly integrated aesthetic. Since this texture set is minimal, the included texture.cfg cross-references default files, ensuring no unnecessary duplication for space efficiency.

Key Steps for Installation

  1. Insert the folder named texture.FSN into the c172 directory (typically found in SimObjects/airplanes).
  2. In the aircraft.cfg file, append the following section at the bottom so it can be located easily in the future.
  3. Update the placeholder # in the [fltsim.#] line to match the next valid entry in your configuration.
  4. Save all changes before closing the file.

description="Repaint by YokerPoker. A stable and trustworthy plane, most pilots have logged at least a few hours in a Cessna 172, since it's the most widely available aircraft in the rental fleet, and is used by most flight schools. Since the first prototype was completed in 1955, more than 35,000 C172s have been produced, making it the world's most popular single-engine plane. One of Cessna's first tricycle-gear airplanes, the 172 quickly became the favorite of a growing class of business pilots. Its reliability and easy handling (along with thoughtful engineering and structural updates) have ensured its continued popularity for decades."

Additional Information

This repaint relies on the default textures from your existing installation of the Cessna 172. Be sure that the appropriate texture folder is in place so the aircraft displays correctly in the simulator. For convenience, the necessary base model is available in the Fly Away Simulation library; you will need that for this repaint to function properly. Offering a genuine look coupled with historical significance, this FSN livery adds yet another layer of customization to the already iconic Skyhawk.
