Situated in British Columbia’s scenic northwestern region, Terrace Airport (CYXT) serves as a key gateway to the surrounding mountainous terrain. This freeware add-on completely overhauls CYXT so that it aligns with current charts and real-world imagery. The enhancements incorporate extended runways, refined taxiway geometry, reconfigured roadways, newly added parking zones, and much more. This package is intended for use with Microsoft Flight Simulator X. By blending data from historical airport charts and satellite references, the developer, Robert Catherall, has produced an updated rendition that strives to replicate the bustling environment of Terrace.
Thorough Layout Modifications
Based on thorough analysis of the latest layout diagrams, this scenery project relies on ADE v1.39 (Beta) to introduce adjustments at Terrace Airport. Navigational aids, approach illumination, and apron positioning are all revisited, leading to a realistic recreation of both paved surfaces and surrounding infrastructure. To ensure accuracy, work references an effective chart date of January 15, 2009.
Key Airport Upgrades
- Runway Extensions: The main runway (15/33) now extends to approximately 7,500 feet. Additionally, runway 03/21 is recalculated to around 5,373 feet for compliance with the latest airport documentation.
- Navaid Adjustments: The decommissioned TB Skeena (Terrace) NDB operating on 254 KHz is removed to reflect its real-world status.
- Taxi Network Refinements: Taxiways, signage, and aprons are aligned to match the aerodrome chart and satellite observations. Updated markings help to guide virtual pilots during ground operations.
- Airport Center Corrections: The geographical placement of the airfield center is fine-tuned.
- VASIS Repositioning: The Visual Approach Slope Indicator Systems on the primary runway (15/33) are repositioned for proper approach guidance.
- Infrastructure Overhaul: Roads, parking sections, and various additional ashphalt and concrete areas are introduced to replicate on-site driving routes and aircraft parking completeness.
- 3D Objects and Buildings: Outdated default structures have been purged and replaced with models more suitable to depict the local architecture. Static aircraft, ground vehicles, and vegetation elements are also included to provide an immersive atmosphere.
Included Files
Within this release, you will find two BGL files that represent the revised airport layout and related scenery data:
- CYXT_ADE_RWC.BGL
- Handles primary airport model data, runway geometry, and objects.
- CYXT_ADE_RWC.CVX.BGL
- Manages vector data such as roads and terrain adjustments.
Installation Process
- Locate CYXT_ADE_RWC.BGL and CYXT_ADE_RWC.CVX.BGL, then drop them into your “Addon Scenery ? Scenery” folder in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
- Launch your simulator. Once it loads, Terrace Airport will feature all of the updated adjustments.
Uninstalling the Modification
- Open the same folder where you placed both original BGL files.
- Remove the two CYXT_ADE_RWC files, thereby reverting the airport back to the default simulator configuration.
