Dubai Int. Airport in FSX.This is an AFX file for FSX. I tried it with SP1 and SP2 and it works without problems. I don't know if it will work with the Acceleration Pack. I added the new passenger terminal as well as the complete cargo area, the flower center, the fuel tanks, a lot of maintenance hangars and other hangars, the private terminal, a lot of fuel trucks and Helipads (all of them are default library objects). The taxiways are 98% correct placed and signed.

The Aircrafts (AI and user) will be directed by ATC to the next parking space which is numbered as the next one. I didn't sign it by airline code, because I think its better by numbering them (don't worry, they are mixed numbered, and not one after the other). I also added the new parking spaces for the A380. I know that the runway 12R/30L is not at the exact right place, but I couldn't place it more exactly, because I don't know how to flat the terrain in front of runway 30L, and delete the power antenna (autogen scenery).

This scenery is freeware, and it's forbidden to use it in payware or trialware products!

If you like to change something in my scenery, feel free for your own use, but don't public it as your scenery!

Install:

Place the unpacked OMDB folder in the "Addon Scenery" folder in your main FSX folder. After that start FSX and go to the scenery library and add the scenery. Then close FSX and start it again.

That's all, I hope you enjoy my scenery.

Editorial

Are you like me and find the original take on the Dubai International Airport in FSX a little embarrassing? If so, you might love this mod by Thomas Kostka.

Preview screenshot

Thomas has done a great job of making it look as realistic as possible, creating something that is engaging and interesting in equal measure. This mod brings to life a new level of detail, an impressive degree of scale and also introduces missing sections from before. The flower center, the fuel takes and major maintenance hangers are now included alongside private terminals, helipads and various other additions along the way.

So, how does this compare to the real thing?

Realism

The realism is so impressive here, making it every easy to get to grips with if you’ve ever been to DIA in the past. This is also just a basic AFX file, meaning that it should work with both SP1 and SP2 for FSX so you should have no problems with that. However, I was unable to verify if this worked with Acceleration or not.

The new terminals are very impressive, though, and make it feel far more authentic than before. It also comes with things like new fuel tanks, a flower center and even the major hangers and terminals have seen major changes. It’s this kind of commitment that brings the whole thing together and makes something much more enjoyable to fly around in.

The realism is made much better by the improvement of the old taxiways, introducing 98% realism with the scale and the placement of each taxiway. Another major improvement has been that of the introduction of the helipads and the fuel tracks which bring the whole thing back together in rather awesome style.

This works with both AI aircraft and users so you’ll see AI aircraft flying around the area without any problems. This ensures that the location will look after itself properly and bring the whole system together, with ATC directing aircraft to the right place time after time.

Whilst some things could not be changed or edited to fit with the realistic image properly, they do as much as they possibly can to bring the whole thing together and introduce something new.

Scope

The scope is hugely impressive, offering a remake of the scenery that is both authentic and carries the weight of realism. If you felt like the scale or placement was out in the past, this is a far closer and detailed remake of a very important airport.

Verdict

I would happily recommend this for various reasons, not least the realism and the incredible depth added to nearly every section of the scenery. This really creates something fun and engaging that looks fresh and interesting, creating a unique and interesting scenery package for sure. Interested in seeing what Dubai airport “should” look like? Then I think it would be best if you gave this a try!
