This freeware add-on provides a complete McDonnell Douglas MD-11 simulation portraying Swiss Airlines’ HB-IWC registration. It contains a fully integrated base model, animations, reflective textures, and comprehensive lighting. This release, compatible with FS2004, showcases detailed flight characteristics, advanced visuals, and a faithful representation of the real trijet.
Notable Visual Representation
Exterior Model: Developed by the iFDG team (international Flightsim Design Group), the exterior structure replicates the MD-11’s signature trijet layout with active control surfaces, flaperons, and elaborate reflection mapping. Painters and creators Urs, Marc, and Matt Hess meticulously captured the Swiss Airlines livery, ensuring that each angle reflects a precise look.
Cockpit and Lighting: Although designed to interface with FS2004’s virtual cockpit systems, it also supports external custom gauges if preferred. The lighting configuration illuminates navigational signals, landing beams, and tail sections for night operations.

Core MD-11 Characteristics
The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 stands out as one of the most advanced wide-cabin trijets. Its extended fuselage design is longer than the older DC-10 series, offering increased seating options ranging from approximately 285 seats in a three-class layout to a maximum of around 410 in entirely economy-focused configurations. Swiss Airlines utilized the MD-11 for its medium- and long-haul routes, valuing its strong reliability and significant cargo capacity.
Engineering and Aerodynamics
On each wing, specialized winglets and refined trailing edges reduce drag. By integrating a smaller horizontal tail—complete with additional fuel capacity—and an elongated tail cone, engineers extracted more range without compromising performance. These design elements, combined with robust engine choices such as the Pratt & Whitney 4460/4462 or the General Electric CF6-80C2, enable a maximum takeoff weight of up to 630,500 pounds (285,990 kg) on extended-range versions. That configuration allows for flights of roughly 8,225 statute miles (13,230 km) without refueling.
Flight Deck Technology
The MD-11’s advanced cockpit includes six CRT (cathode ray tube) screens displaying comprehensive digital instrumentation. Modern wind-shear detection, dual flight management, and a dual digital autopilot system significantly decrease pilot workload, eliminating the need for a third flight crew member. Additionally, automated checklists streamline normal and emergency procedures, ensuring rapid troubleshooting in complex scenarios.
