As an airline, Belgorod Air Enterprise took a lot of pride in owning Yak40 in its charter of passenger aircraft for a long period of time. In fact, ending August 2006 the BAE had as many as six Yakovlev Yak-40s in its fleet. The airport was able to accommodate Yak-40, along with other aircraft such as An-24 and A-410, in the sixties with the completion of the paved runway construction. As a small, three-engined airliner, Yakovlev Yak-40 was recognized as the world's first regional jet transport aircraft. It also registered tremendous success in exports and went on to be demonstrated in as many as 75 countries across the world.
