This package showcases a shining example of Western Airlines’ distinct 1977 tri-jet scheme, meticulously recreated on Erick Cantu’s well-regarded Vistaliners Boeing 727-200 model. It arrives complete with custom 32-bit textures and fully integrated eye-pleasing lighting effects, plus convenient installation instructions for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 enthusiasts.
Comprehensive Tri-Jet Refinement
The Boeing 727-200, a three-engine aircraft widely recognized for its efficiency, appears here in Western Airlines colors championed during the late 1970s. This updated release rectifies the right-side flag placement, adding an authentic touch for those who value historical accuracy. Kevin Sparkuhl, the creator of the Western Airlines livery featured here, applied layered bitmaps for enhanced clarity and detail from every viewing angle.

Enhanced Visuals and Lighting
To elevate immersion, the textures incorporate full night illumination. Every window and exterior reflection has been crafted to resemble genuine conditions at sunset or after dusk. Paint layers ensure reflective surfaces render correctly, while any emblem, registration number (N2801W), or airline branding aligns precisely with the original real-world aircraft.
Installation and Package Inclusions
The entire aircraft is provided in one package for immediate use. Simply unzip B727-200-Western1977 to your Flightsim 2004\Aircraft folder, making sure to enable “Use folder names” during extraction. After installation, the 727-200 model will appear under Boeing listings, ready for departure once the simulator is launched. Additionally, those who prefer integrating only the paint textures can manually transfer the files to an existing folder and edit their Aircraft.cfg as desired.
Model and Additional Features
This freeware release includes Erick Cantu’s revered model, complete with characteristic gear animations, realistic control-surface movements, and suitably detailed textures that faithfully represent the Boeing 727’s fuselage lines. The package also integrates Erick’s robust sound set, giving sim pilots a convincing tri-engine acoustic environment. If an alternative cockpit layout is desired, Richard Probst’s complimentary panel remains a popular option among the 727 community, though any B727 panel is similarly compatible.
Developer Credits
Erick Cantu designed the original Vistaliners Boeing 727-200 model, ensuring a high level of structural detail and authenticity. The Western Airlines livery was carefully painted by Kevin Sparkuhl, who gave particular attention to color matching and historical accuracy. This freeware package offers a complete, flyable rendition of a classic domestic airliner that once played a noteworthy role in American aviation history.
