The files are in layered Photoshop format (*.psd). I have included my own BOAC colours that you must replace with your own layers of paint to the aircraft.

The files include additional layers to support the original DC-4GM North Star of the RCAF. This version had the C-54G fuselage with elliptical windows, aft cargo door etc. I have not made a mdl-file of this yet, but just in case...

Early Argonauts and North Stars had exhaust on both sides of the engine cowlings. That's why 'inboard' exhaust stains are included in some of the files, hidden by default.

The engines nacelle & cowling file names may be a little misleading. Some clarification:

  • dc4M_cowling_t.bmp covers the cowlings of all four engines.
  • dc4nacelle2_t.bmp covers the entire nacelle of engine two, not including the cowling.
  • dc4nacelle3_t.bmp covers nacelle three, it is a mirror image of dc4nacelle2_t and for this reason I have not included a separate psd file for it.
  • dc4cowl_14 covers the nacelles of engine 1 and 4 (but not the cowlings!).

Also note that the some portions of the fuselage top are textured by a separate file, dc4fustop_etc_t.bmp. This is to preserve surface detail.

The files contain some remains of the DC-6 textures by Greg Pepper and Tom Gibson. Tom has a tutorial at his website, explaining how to use paintkits like this.

The archive c4_paint.zip has 16 files and directories contained within it.
