This Swissair Douglas DC-2 HB-ITE repaint stands as a high-fidelity addition to the Uiver Team X payware Douglas DC-2 package. It depicts a classic livery that once flew under Swissair’s banner, highlighting an era when the airline was expanding its European routes. This repaint requires the dedicated payware DC-2 model (available for separate purchase), and all proceeds from that model benefit the Aviodrome, the Dutch National Aviation Theme Park and Museum.
Historic Significance of the Douglas DC-2
The Douglas DC-2 introduced advanced aerodynamics and higher-performance engines during the mid-1930s, elevating commercial aviation standards. It offered improved cabin comfort and reliability, paving the way for successive aircraft designs. Its robust airframe and reliable Pratt & Whitney radial engines (if equipped) made it a favorite for both passenger and cargo missions. Many carriers, including Swissair, utilized the DC-2’s capabilities extensively during the formative years of modern aviation.
Swissair Connection
Swissair, recognized as the former flag carrier of Switzerland, actively expanded its services across Europe and beyond during the DC-2's operational heyday. The HB-ITE variant of the DC-2, in particular, blended the aircraft’s touring range with Swissair’s commitment to quality and safety. This specific repaint pays tribute to that historical partnership and captures the authentic Swissair markings, enabling enthusiasts in Microsoft Flight Simulator X to revisit an iconic chapter in commercial flight.
