This freeware expansion enriches the collection of smaller aerodromes along the west coast of South Africa, catering to microlight enthusiasts and general aviation pilots seeking authentic low-and-slow adventures. Developed by Aeroworx’s dedicated team and including contributions from creators like Martin du Preez and Hannes Steyn, this package integrates seamlessly into Microsoft Flight Simulator X while leveraging the benefits of supplementary files such as FSXWORX17.ZIP and FSXWORX20.ZIP for the best terrain compatibility. Detailed tuning ensures water elevations, runways, and vector data match the intended mesh settings, offering a realistic environment over the coastal plains and interior routes of Southern Africa’s scenic regions.

Suggestions Before Activation

  • Install Detailed Terrain Features for Southern Africa (released by Aeroworx) in proper numerical sequence to maintain landclass accuracy.
  • Pair this scenery with the recommended Aeroworx mesh (FSXMesh0604 parts 1–4, FSXMesh0605 parts 1–3, FSXMesh0704 parts 1–3, and FSXMesh0705) if possible. The numerous dam surfaces, vector data, and elevations have been calibrated to align with these meshes.
  • Running default or alternate meshes may introduce sunken or elevated water bodies, since the shoreline contours are optimized for Aeroworx’s data sets.

Scenery Folder Structure and Installation Steps

  1. Unzip the downloaded “fsxWorx25.zip” to a temporary location. It is advisable to maintain a dedicated storage directory for Aeroworx add-ons.
  2. Double-click “fsxWorx25.exe” to trigger the automated installer. It will detect your simulator's path from the system registry. Follow all on-screen instructions.
  3. A folder named “SASceneryFSX” will be placed in your main Scenery directory within Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This location will host current and future Aeroworx southern Africa packages.
  4. If you prefer a manual placement, direct the installer to a temporary folder. Inspect the file structure and then copy the contents into the correct FSX library location. Avoid changing folder names, as future patches will rely on these specific paths.
  5. On your first Aeroworx installation, access your simulator’s “Scenery Library,” select “Add Area,” and navigate to “SASceneryFSX.” Approve the selection, exit, and restart the simulator to finalize the integration.

Practical Considerations for Optimal Display

  • Maintain at least a 1 m mesh resolution for accurate shorelines and proper dam boundaries.
  • In some cases, roads and rivers might overlap certain airstrips due to preexisting positioning in the default simulator data.
  • Bridges are not yet implemented for locations where roads cross bodies of water.
  • Occasionally, water bodies in higher terrain areas may not match the dam walls if the mesh resolution is insufficient.

Tools and Data Processing

Microsoft Scenery SDK SP2
Used to compile scenery objects and ground polygons.
Scenery Builder (Luis Sá)
Assisted with creation of landclass features and vector work.
Airport Design Editor (ScruffyDuck Software)
Managed adjustments to airport layouts and runways.
Whisplacer 0.9
Placed scenery elements at accurate coordinates for a realistic environment.
Additional Digitizing Utilities
Processed specific map revisions and real-world topography for the region.

This scenery, produced under Aeroworx, remains freeware and cannot be modified or sold commercially. We gratefully acknowledge the meticulous effort of Martin du Preez and Hannes Steyn in crafting these smaller airfields for broader community enjoyment.
