Editorial
Having decided to give my old FS2004 hanger a bit of a re-jig and a small change in terms of the style, I thought that getting involved with this aircraft would be well worth my time. The C130 Hercules is a very popular aircraft and although I’ve only ever seen it being used rather than setting foot on one, this military transport is something I’ve always been fascinated by. Therefore, when I heard that we had a release waiting for FS2004 to try out it seemed like the perfect way to modernize my hanger as well as try out something I’d never really used in the past in any flight simulator.
This remake of the C-130, then, was hugely impressive to me. I spent a few hour reading up into the aircraft and watched a cool documentary about it, giving me a bit more information about what its purpose was and what it actually stood for as a plane. I have to say, then, that given it was used as a transport aircraft this package does a truly outstanding job of capturing that reasoning and that occupation perfectly well. It feels like it has huge amounts of space and the scale of the design looks to be spot on.
As far as the detail and the design goes, though, I was hugely imposed. It looked to stand up to any pictures that I had seen both inside and outside. The textures on the outside matched the colors and the style of the original, whilst the overall modelling is spot on with regards to how it should look. The interior cockpit has been meticulously worked upon, as well, which manages to really build that positive and friendly atmosphere from within the cockpit. If you want an aircraft that feels fun and exclusive, this is a good place to get started!
The full interior and the virtual cockpit panel also make it really easy to control the thing. You have access to all of the needed features to ensure you can fly around without any real limitations or hindrances. To avoid getting yourself into a sticky situation along the way, though, you can find that the aircraft provides you with lots of features on the panel to help you avoid these errors along the way.
The sound systems that were added in are just fantastic, as well. They boom around the interior of the aircraft and judging from the videos and sounds I had heard previously I knew that this was more or less spot on. As far as a free download package goes this does excellent work in managing to capture the real detail and style of the original aircraft. If you are a fan of the Hercules and want to see it in action in all of its glory, you really should consider taking on this package as it does a fantastic job of just capturing the real feeling and style of the aircraft itself – as a first-time user, I was massively impressed!
