Here is a carefully refined repaint that enriches the default Boeing 737-800 in Microsoft Flight Simulator X with the Excel Airlines G-XLAK registration. Developed by George Hutton, this freeware add-on presents the airline’s updated color scheme and intends to deliver a visually precise rendition. The base aircraft model must be obtained separately from the Fly Away Simulation library, ensuring a complete installation and readiness for your next virtual departure.

Excel Airlines G-XLAK Livery Highlights

This repaint showcases Excel Airlines’ G-XLAK registration, reflecting distinctive elements like the streamlined fuselage markings and the subtle corporate palette. The Boeing 737-800, a twin-engine narrow-body designed for efficient short- to medium-haul operations, fits naturally with Excel’s route portfolio. George Hutton has combined fine detail with accurate proportions, crafting a striking exterior that stands out on any virtual ramp or taxiway.

Steps to Install the Textures

  • Extract the contents of the downloaded file to a temporary location.
  • Transfer the Texture.xla folder into your default B737-800 aircraft directory (commonly labeled B738_800 within the SimObjects/Airplanes folder).
  • Open your aircraft.cfg file, then append the following configuration entry. Make sure to substitute X with the next available number in your [fltsim] sequences (for example, if the last entry is [fltsim.5], use [fltsim.6]):

[fltsim.X] title=Boeing 737-800 Excel sim=Boeing737-800 model= panel= sound= texture=xla kb_checklists=Boeing737-800_check kb_reference=Boeing737-800_ref atc_id= atc_airline=Expo atc_flight_number=7371 ui_manufacturer="Boeing" ui_type="737-800" ui_variation=Excel ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner" ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation" - Repaint by George Hutton description="One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way; in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service."

A Quick Look at the Base Model Requirements

As this download delivers only the repaint files, the core Boeing 737-800 model from the default Microsoft Flight Simulator X setup is essential. To ensure everything operates correctly, verify the base aircraft is present or sourced from the Fly Away Simulation library prior to texture installation.
