This freeware add-on refines Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (HKJK) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, improving both taxiways and parking to better accommodate realistic air traffic movements. Created by Karl F. Hajek, this updated AFCAD also ensures that wide-body operations can be carried out more practically, reflecting real-world procedures at one of East Africa’s busiest hubs.
Detailed Modifications to the Airfield Layout
This package revises the default AFCAD2 file for HKJK in several ways, starting with newly allocated parking spots that cater to heavy commercial aircraft. It also reorganizes taxi pathways to prevent congestion—in particular, for larger jets commonly operated by national carriers in Kenya and other frequent visitors.
Taxiway Enhancements
All taxi segments leading from runway to terminal zones have been reconfigured to include proper clearances. Pilots now have an easier time maneuvering wide-body aircraft, resulting in fewer traffic conflicts. Additionally, the creator has used real-world aviation data to align runway edges and navigational points with their actual coordinates.
Support for AI Traffic
In order to handle increasingly varied airline schedules, this AFCAD employs extra ramp and gate assignments alongside more logical holding and pushback designs. During AI peak hours, you might spot realistic carriers arriving from different routes—even some traffic that occasionally connects through Toncontin—showcasing the mod’s emphasis on authenticity.
Installation Guidelines
- Unzip the AF2_HKJK.bgl file into the “Addon Scenery/Scenery” folder found within your Flight Simulator 9 directory.
- Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and allow the simulator’s scenery database to update automatically.
This custom layout should seamlessly replace the default configuration for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. To achieve the most realistic experience, users may choose to install AI flight schedules that feature international carriers operating into Kenya.
