This repaint faithfully depicts Gloster Meteor F8 number 4412, which served among a fleet of sixty units operated by the Brazilian Air Force. Developed by Rob Richardson for Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration, the base aircraft model offers an authentic representation of the Meteor F8's design, flight envelope, and aerodynamic characteristics. This particular repaint, crafted by Peter Watkins, captures unique Brazilian markings and delivers enhanced exterior detailing. It is provided as freeware and does not include the base model, which must be acquired separately.
Background of the Meteor F8 in Brazilian Service
The Meteor series, produced by Gloster, was Britain’s first operational jet fighter. Its F8 variant featured refinements such as a redesigned fuselage and improved tailplane for better stability. Brazil introduced these jets to bolster air defense capabilities, eventually operating sixty Meteor F8 airframes. Marked as registration 4412, this example highlights the national roundels and unique tactical numerals that were common to the Brazilian Air Force inventory at the time.

Key Texture Features
Peter Watkins has integrated historically accurate paint tones, squadron emblems, and fuselage lettering into this livery. Rivet lines and panel shading are subtly reworked using advanced layering techniques, creating an immersive look without straying from the aircraft’s real-world specifications. The original geometry from Rob Richardson’s model ensures the Meteor F8’s dimensions, cockpit layout, and atmospheric performance remain as close as possible to its real counterpart.
Installation Process
Before installing, acquire the freeware Gloster Meteor F8 base package by Rob Richardson (available within the Fly Away Simulation library). Once you have obtained the base model, follow these steps:
- Extract the included texture folder into the “Gloster Meteor Mk 8” directory located under the FSX “SimObjects/Airplanes” path.
- Open the aircraft configuration file (aircraft.cfg) found in the same folder, then insert the following entry, making sure to replace “xx” with the next available sequence number.

Ensuring Proper Configuration
After you have pasted the above code, verify that each entry aligns with the existing numbering sequence within your aircraft configuration file. Upon saving and closing the file, launch Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration and locate the Gloster Meteor F8 in your aircraft menu. You should now see the Brazilian 4412 repaint ready to fly.
Important Notes
This repaint relies on Rob Richardson’s freeware Gloster Meteor F8 model and will not function without it. The textures are optimized to preserve performance within the simulator, ensuring no significant FPS impact. For best results, confirm that any special visual effects or reflection settings are tailored to your preference in the sim’s display options.
