This freeware package, developed by Paul Craig, provides replacement texture components for the default Airbus A321-200 in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It eliminates the blurred appearance that can occur with the original files, ensuring a noticeably sharper exterior. This updated visual presentation benefits those who appreciate precise detail on the largest variant of Airbus’s narrow-body family. Below, you will find information about the technical changes made, illustrated comparisons, and a concise installation procedure.
Refined Rendering and Clarity
The updated files address the main texture content used on the default A321-200 model. By refining the DirectDraw Surface (DDS) layers, Paul Craig resolved the common low-resolution artifacting that manifests at various zoom distances. This solution preserves essential details, such as fuselage markings and airline liveries, and helps maintain crisp lines during close-up inspections and taxi maneuvers. The adjustments are subtle yet effective in delivering a consistently clear view.

Step-by-Step Installation Procedure
- First, prepare backup copies of your default Airbus A321-200 texture folders.
- Locate the aircraft directory, typically found at:
OS (C)/Program Files(x86)/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/SimObjects/Airplanes/Airbus_A321 - Extract the downloaded archive into a temporary folder for easy access.
- Open the subfolder named "Texture 1". Within it, copy the file named A321_1_T.dds.
- Paste that file into the corresponding "Texture.2" folder (or other relevant texture folders such as Texture.4 or Texture.5, depending on your installation structure). Overwrite when prompted.
- Additional reference images in each subfolder will help confirm correct placement.
Once completed, relaunch the simulator, load the default Airbus A321, and observe the enhanced surface rendering without the previous blur. As always, storing a backup of your original files allows quick reversion if needed.
Aircraft Background
The Airbus A321 represents an extended fuselage member of the A320 family, offering increased capacity and range. Many real-world operators deploy this type across medium-haul routes worldwide. In Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the default Airbus A321 models various airline liveries but frequently suffers from texture fidelity issues out of the box. Paul Craig’s fix addresses those flaws, improving the aircraft’s overall realism for virtual pilots.

In the above image, you can see a more defined fuselage and sharper livery elements. This improvement adds authenticity to pre-flight walkarounds and cockpit-to-ground checks.
Developer Notes & Disclaimer
Paul Craig has confirmed that the revised files work reliably on his system and do not introduce performance issues. However, they are provided as-is, and users apply them at their own discretion. In the event of any unforeseen results, always revert to the backup textures.
With this patch, you can explore medium-range virtual flights onboard the Airbus A321 with improved external visuals, free from the familiar image degradation. Enjoy your newly refined textures, and many thanks to Paul Craig for creating this valuable addon.
