This package provides a freeware simulation of the single-seat F-15 Eagle in a Tyndall AFB, 325th Fighter Wing livery for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Created originally by Nathan Fife and extensively updated by Mark Rooks (RDG Aircraft) with panel enhancements by Danny Garnier, it introduces a realistic two-tone tactical gray design similar to those operated over Europe. It features authentic 2D and virtual cockpits, bespoke afterburner effects, and documented historical notes on the F-15’s development. Enthusiasts will appreciate the careful attention to detail that replicates the potent capabilities of this iconic air superiority fighter, which has consistently excelled in aerial engagements without suffering a single air-to-air combat loss.
Detailed Visuals and Technical Elements
The external paint scheme represents a low-visibility configuration that emerged after early aircraft were initially delivered in “Air Superiority Blue.” The texturing showcases subtle shading variations across the fuselage and vertical stabilizers, providing a convincing depiction of service wear. Inside the cockpit, both 2D panels and the VC (virtual cockpit) align with real-world F-15 flight decks, offering high-resolution gauges and indicators. These elements work together to give a convincing impression of operating an F-15 on modern missions.
About Tyndall AFB’s 325th Fighter Wing
Based in Florida near Panama City, Tyndall AFB hosts the 325th Fighter Wing, historically focused on providing combat-ready pilots and advanced tactical training. The F-15 Eagle stationed at Tyndall AFB has exemplified formidable maneuverability and an unmatched power-to-weight ratio, making it especially well-suited for maintaining air dominance in variable operational environments.
Improved Flight Dynamics and Visual Effects
This version includes specialized afterburner effects that illuminate the tail section under engine thrust, as well as a smoke-tinted canopy (optional). If you prefer to disable the gold-tinted canopy, refer to the “readme” within the canopy folder for a quick substitution procedure. The performance characteristics reflect the F-15’s agility, enabling rapid climbs, tight turning circles, and stable handling at high speeds.
Installation Instructions
- Extract the downloaded package to a temporary location. Confirm that the aircraft folder contains the following six items: CFG, Airfile, Model, Sound, Panel, and Textures.
- Place the entire “F-15 Tyndall AFB 325 FW” folder (with the six files) into your main aircraft directory, generally found at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes
- Open the Effects folder included with this package and move its contents into your simulator’s Effects directory. By default, this is located at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\Effects
- Ensure every archive file is fully unzipped or extracted, as partial extractions can cause issues. If desired, make a backup of any existing files before overwriting.
Panel Updates and Notes
The panel configuration has been modified by Danny Garnier to improve readability and compatibility. While the cockpit already includes a comprehensive 2D panel and VC, these refinements align specific gauges with realistic F-15 standards. If you notice any display irregularities, double-check that all files are in the correct folders.
Disclaimer
All files were verified to be virus-free at the time of upload. Neither the creators nor any associated parties can be held liable for damage or errors arising from the use of this package. By installing these files, you acknowledge and accept all associated risks.
Please enjoy the new repaint and modifications. Credits go to Nathan Fife for the original F-15 Strike Eagle model and to Mark Rooks (RDG Aircraft) for the custom textures. The words of Tim Conrad (a.k.a. Piglet) remain relevant: this model was developed to their personal standards and preferences, with no implied guarantees beyond freeware usage. Nonetheless, it presents a compelling experience for fans of the classic F-15 and its storied service record.
