Experience a detailed depiction of Montevideo, Uruguay’s coastal region with this freeware scenery add-on created by Pablo Contouris. It focuses on the city’s unique position along the Rio de la Plata estuary, plus the surrounding landscapes that define this part of South America. To achieve a faithful representation of the famed brownish hue of the estuary water, it is strongly recommended to install the “Buenos Aires 2008” (BSAS08V1.ZIP) package, which can enhance the color effects in this scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
Enhanced Views of Uruguay’s Capital
Montevideo’s shoreline sits along the wide stretch of the Rio de la Plata, known for its picturesque waterfront and diverse architecture. Thanks to this scenery’s careful coastlines and environmental details, virtual pilots can explore the outskirts of the city and appreciate its harbor views, residential areas, and industrial zones. Numerous custom objects are included, drawing from unique building libraries originally developed for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, ensuring an immersive and realistic urban backdrop.
FS9 Custom Building Libraries
This package incorporates various FS9-specific building sets stored in object libraries such as Namw, Name, and Namc. These have been adapted to work seamlessly within the scenery, creating hangars, sheds, and other structures populating different airports and facilities. Certain objects display vintage designs, while others function as more modern warehouses or industrial spaces. When using EZ-Scenery, each structure’s proportions can be adjusted to fit diverse layout requirements, making customization straightforward for those designing their own airport facilities.
Given that many of these models appear in different configurations, each item is succinctly named in the provided TXT file. This naming convention prevents confusion, though it can be modified if needed—just be sure to retain the original GUID integers referenced for placement. This shared library arrangement is vital for community-based scenery sharing because every user who installs scenery containing these objects will also need the corresponding library package.
Installation and File Structure
Below are the steps to integrate these objects into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 or a compatible environment being linked to FSX scenery design. The instructions refer specifically to FS9 folder conventions, but the method can also be adapted when working with other sims:
- Extract the contents of FS9 custom buildins SS 1.zip into a temporary directory.
- Place fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1.bgl, fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1.txt, and fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1.xml within the FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery folder.
- Move all associated .bmp textures into the FS9/Addon Scenery/Texture folder.
Those familiar with customized directory structures can choose any active scenery folder, as long as the files remain in a consistent location to allow the simulator to load them properly.
Key Components
- fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1.bgl
- Houses the library of custom building objects. It is crucial to have this file installed when using scenery relying on these references.
- fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1.txt
- Appears in EZ-Scenery for easier identification of building names during placement. Retaining this file is optional if EZ-Scenery is not used, but it causes no issues if left in place.
- fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1.xml
- Provides an XML foundation for those who opt to insert objects through manual scenery design approaches. This file can remain in the scenery folder, even if not actively used.
Usage Permissions
All contents within this library remain freeware and are intended solely for freeware scenery work in FS9-based environments. Objects drawn from these libraries should be shared only if the recipients also download and install the same structures to avoid missing models or textures. This careful approach ensures no interruptions to the overall visual experience.
