The good news for all simulation fans is that Dovetail Games have picked up the rights to distribute the Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition game using the ever-popular gaming platform Steam. Steam is a Valve product and has been around for years, acting as a huge marketplace to pick up brilliant games on for cheap prices.
Dovetail Games also announced that they will be working with Flight1 for the launch of this title to bring new content to the game. Flight1 has worked on the past with the MFS titles to create brilliant add-on DLC that has helped make the series as popular as it is. With the Steam edition forthcoming, there have been promises of unique content being added to entice ex-players back to the game for a second jaunt.
Steve Bainbridge, COO at Dovetail Games said,
We are very pleased to be working in conjunction with Flight1. They are highly experienced in creating quality content that supports Microsoft's Flight Simulator series and we are looking forward to working together to help Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition realise its full potential."
Mungo Leir, Managing Director of Flight1 Europe added, "I am delighted that Flight1 is working with Dovetail Games. Dovetail's vision for Flight Simulator is good news for the flight sim community in all sorts of ways. We're very excited.
The Microsoft Flight Simulator series has been incredibly popular for many years now, and it’s good to see them resurrected by Dovetail and especially through Steam. Steam makes it incredibly easy to pick up games and then use them on as many machines as you like, so long as you validate the hardware with your Steam account.
Dovetail Games is a new name to the industry, having only appeared in 2013. However, they used to run as Railsimulator.com Ltd and were behind the Train Simulator games which were popular (if you enjoy that sort of thing). It’s been one of the bigger successes for the company but now as they look to move into the big bad world of flight simulation, they have picked the perfect partner to tag up alongside in Flight1. Dovetail Games are going to be helping bring the flight simulation world back to the popularity of other gamers, so if you are looking to try out a flight simulation game you might want to wait until this is released to really see what you can get up to in the skies.
Flight1 have been around since 1997 and have provided a huge variety of add-ons and DLC for the MFS series. They have produced some of the best additions to the series over the years so it’s nice to see them taking a flagship role in the future of the series. Having worked with teams like Pilatus and Cessna to build the right idea and theology for the series, this could yet be the best flight simulation game released once Flight1 take a more commanding role in the creation of the series as a whole.
FSX has now been released on Steam - more information here.
