This freeware package offers a complete rendition of the Aeroflot liveried McDonnell Douglas MD-11F for FS2004, featuring a detailed three-engine setup, robust cockpit systems, and an accurate external model—all crafted by iFDG (International Flightsim Design Group) and modified by the creators for optimal performance.
Refined Three-Engine Configuration
The MD-11F departs from twin-engine wide-bodies by utilizing a trijet layout, which improves balance and power distribution. Aeroflot planned to integrate this airframe into their long-haul fleet, highlighting the versatility of a design that can adapt to both cargo and passenger roles. Since the original DC-10, the airframe has been extended and outfitted with enhanced aerodynamics, resulting in a longer fuselage that accommodates additional payload.
Technical Upgrades and Distinctive Design
iFDG incorporated full animations for control surfaces, wing elements, flaperons, and lighting arrays. Reflective textures presented by Stian Svensen capture the Aeroflot livery with striking accuracy, ensuring true-to-life details on every exterior curve. On the real airframe, subtle aerodynamic refinements—such as tail cone shaping and a re-engineered wing trailing edge—further boost range and reduce operational costs.
Interior Layout and Cargo Versatility
This large-cabin trijet excels in multi-role operations. It can function as a pure freighter, a mixed passenger-cargo configuration, or a convertible variant. In full passenger form, seating typically ranges from 285 to 410 seats. Underneath the main deck, operators benefit from additional storage capacity for containerized freight. This flexible approach delivers higher revenue potential and demonstrates why airlines worldwide sought the MD-11.
Enhanced Aerodynamics and Engine Options
Compared to earlier wide-bodies, this model leverages extended-range features and winglets that further refine lift characteristics. The smaller horizontal tail incorporates integral fuel tanks, ensuring balanced weight distribution. Three engine selections are available—General Electric CF6-80C2, Pratt & Whitney 4460, or Pratt & Whitney 4462—giving operators flexibility in terms of thrust and efficiency, which also benefits simulator pilots who like to tailor performance settings.
Advanced Flight Deck Architecture
The cockpit suite spans six cathode ray tube (CRT) displays, offering centralized instrumentation and wind-shear detection. A robust dual flight management system working in tandem with digital autopilot technology reduces pilot workload significantly. In real-world operations, this innovation cut cockpit staffing from three to two. During flights, integrated automatic system controllers handle routine system checks, abnormal procedures, and even emergency checklists.
