This unique repaint introduces the North Dakota Air National Guard’s Convair F-102A (“O-53432”) from the 178th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron/119th Tactical Fighter Group at Hector Field in 1968, meticulously adapted for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It showcases carefully upgraded 2048x2048 graphics, ensuring precise markings, sharp insignia, and historically accurate details. Repaint work is by Jens-Ole Kjolberg, using the official paint kit by Razbam, along with extra decals derived from resources created by Dag Roger Stangeland and Dave Quincey. In order to use these textures, the payware Razbam F-102A is required and must be obtained separately from a store such as SimShack.

Accurate Depiction of a Mid-Century Interceptor

The Convair F-102A was part of the Century Series, designed primarily as a supersonic interceptor equipped with delta-wing aerodynamics. This model’s distinctive single-engine layout, combined with advanced radar systems of that era, made it exceptionally capable of rapid-response missions. By adapting the original design to this high-resolution repaint, every panel line and squadron marking reflects the actual F-102A that served under North Dakota ANG operations.

Key Livery Refinements

  • Full set of new 2048x2048 textures for maximum clarity and authenticity.
  • Dedicated markings for “O-53432,” featuring the 178th FIS tailcode and unit insignia.
  • Designed as an optional texture set for precise integration with the Razbam payware model.

Enhanced Decal Highlights

Applying markings from multiple paint kit sources—an original base kit by Razbam plus decal contributions from Dag Roger Stangeland and Dave Quincey—ensures that key emblems and lettering are crisp and faithful to the real aircraft’s identity. These details capture the era-specific icons and stenciling that adorned the jets stationed at Hector Field.

Installation Steps

To integrate these textures correctly, please follow the instructions below. Note that the underlying payware aircraft model by Razbam is not included and must be purchased before making use of these files:

  1. Extract this package, ensuring the texture (.bmp) files are placed into the main Razbam Convair F-102A directory. The process should automatically create two new texture folders.
  2. Within the “aircraft.cfg” file, append a fresh [fltsim.x] entry. Make sure to replace “x” with the subsequent number in your sequence to avoid duplication or omission.

Use the following snippet for the new [fltsim] section:

[fltsim.xx]

Enjoy exploring mid-century air defense operations from the perspective of the 178th FIS under the North Dakota Air National Guard.
