description=The 'H' model of North American's superb Mustang line was the finest example of the type, and was probably the fastest piston fighter of WWII. However, the type never saw combat, having entered service just a bit too late. Endowed with the same basic prowess of the P-51D, the 'H' delivered superior performance in every area, along with lighter weight, increased range, enhanced agility, and an improved cockpit. It carried similar armament to the P-51D, with the usual six .50 caliber guns and various combinations of rockets, bombs, and drop tanks depending on the mission.
