The aircraft has the Virginia Air National Guard 149th Fighter Squadron's Rebel Flag insignia. In 1992 Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder outlawed the use of the Confed
erateerate battle flag, a symbol that many African-American airmen reportly found offensive. The Rebel Flag Insignia had been used on the 149th FS aircraft, from the P-47 through the F-16.
