FSX Godzone Taranaki Scenery

This is an update of the freeware Godzone Taranaki/Egmont scenery originally designed for the old NZ150metre mesh, then updated for the Red Baron meshes, and now for FSX. This version was put together as an experiment in producing photoreal scenery using the new FSX features. It utilises the full 'standard' NZ aerial imagery resolution of 2.5 metres per pixel. This particular scenery uses a simple blend mask to overcome the sharp delineation between the photoreal and default scenery. The autogen is just an adaptation of the FS2004 photoreal autogen, modified slightly for FSX. It does not include any extra autogen objects other than the trees and standard buildings.

As this is summer scenery only, you may wish to deactivate it when flying around Taranaki during other seasons.

You need to set your Texture resolution to at least 2 metres to view the photoreal at its correct resolution. (Settings: Display: Scenery tab.) For best results turn up your 'Level of detail radius' to large.

It is designed to complement the scenery ' Taranaki Region' - by 'lowellyerex' available from the ARNZ site. This includes an updated landclass, plus the Maui oil platforms and onshore plant at Oanui.

Mt Taranaki/Mt Egmont, New Zealand 30 x 40 kilometres of photo-real scenery.

Fully autogenned, daytime summer textures only. (It will display throughout the year though.) This showcases the amazing volcanic Mt Taranaki. Like many New Zealand mountains it has both a Maori and European name. Mt Taranaki dominates the Taranaki landscape, and is a spectacular example of of how the central North Island has been effected by volcanic activity.
This is a remake of the original Godzone Taranaki scenery adjusted to match the new elevation meshes. It is best with the Geographx 20m elevation mesh, and the minimum recommended mesh is the Geographx 75m. Visit www.geographx.co.nz for the freeware 75m, or the payware 20m meshes.

If you have installed the previous Godzone FS2004 scenery in FSX (the egmont2 folder) it is best to deactivate the scenery within FSX and delete the folder before installing the update.

To install
Open the zip file, and drag the contents (the GodzoneTaranaki folder) into your default Flight sim folder, which is normally Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator FSX. You can place this wherever you put addon scenery if you normally place it elsewhere. However it is important that you leave it in the GodzoneTaranaki folder rather than just plonk everything into the Addon Sceneryscenery and texture folders. There are just too many autogen files to keep track of if you wish to remove them later.

You will need to visit the Scenery Library within the simulator to manually activate the scenery. Just browse to the GodzoneTaranaki folder and select it to activate.

To fly in the Taranaki area, head south from New Plymouth (NZNP).
