This complete freeware package features a fully modeled Boeing 737-200 in Dominican Airways livery designed specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It offers a custom flight deck, specialized gauges, and unique configurations merged by developer Pablo Contouris. The overall flight handling originates from the FFX B737-200 flight model, then refined to fit FSX parameters. This add-on incorporates key instruments from several contributors, ensuring an immersive classic jetliner experience suitable for short-haul routes. Below, you will find all technical details and instructions for proper setup, along with relevant adjustments for realistic cockpit functionality.
Aircraft Background and Notable Characteristics
The Boeing 737-200 was introduced as an early generation of the 737 family, primarily admired for its efficient performance on short domestic routes. Its sturdy airframe and simpler avionics suite earned it popularity among operators in various regions. In this fictional Dominican Airways variant, the livery celebrates the airline’s tropical roots. The exterior paint scheme reflects warm Caribbean influences, showcasing the operator’s national heritage. Despite its older generation flight deck, this simulation upgrade provides modern gauge compatibility and user-friendly autopilot integration.
Installation Path and Folder Organization
After downloading and unzipping the package, locate the enclosed Panel folder and move its contents into the “panel” directory of the aircraft. An example path might be:
Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\B737-200\panel
All necessary gauges reside inside that panel folder and do not require manual placement in the global FSX Gauges library unless you wish to reuse them in other cockpits. The overhead panel partially derives from the default Boeing 737-800 layout included with FSX, providing intuitive switch placements managed by the default overhead logic.
Essential Configuration Edits
To ensure correct operation of certain systems (such as hydraulic functionality and ice protection), update or confirm the following lines in your Aircraft.cfg file, typically located at:
Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\B737-200
- [hydraulic_system]
- electric_pumps=1
- [deice_system]
- structural_deice_type=1
- [airspeed_indicators]
- airspeed_indicator.0=1
airspeed_indicator.1=1 - [fuel]
- electric_pump=1
- [Radios]
- Audio.1 = 1
Com.1 = 1, 1
Com.2 = 1, 1
Nav.1 = 1, 1, 1
Nav.2 = 1, 1, 0
Adf.1 = 1
Transponder.1 = 1
Marker.1 = 1 - [Flaps.0]
- flaps-position.0=0.000
flaps-position.1=1.000
flaps-position.2=2.000
flaps-position.3=5.000
flaps-position.4=10.000
flaps-position.5=15.000
flaps-position.6=25.000
flaps-position.7=30.000
flaps-position.8=40.000
These entries confirm accurate behavior of overhead switches, airspeed readings, and radio stack functions. Without these lines, important cockpit elements may not operate as intended.
Custom Panel and Gauge Integration
The unique panel was created by Pablo Contouris, blending default FSX components, third-party elements, and textures authorized by:
- Bob Scott (Tinmouse II) for certain bitmaps
- Ken Mitchell for engine instrumentation
- SPanel for supplemental engine indicators
- FS2X.com for the included Garmin GSP
This assembly aims to replicate a realistic B737-200 cockpit layout while retaining familiar FSX autopilot controls, partially inspired by the Sperry 177 Advanced structure. The overhead switches closely emulate older-generation Boeing logic, though they use B737-800 default resources for a seamless transition in FSX.
Garmin 430 and 500 Options
Two separate GPS configurations are available within the folder:
- panel_Garmin430.cfg for the more compact G430 footprint
- panel_Garmin500.cfg for the standard FSX G500 interface
To switch between them, overwrite the existing panel.cfg with your preferred file. The G430 option provides a more authentic approach for vintage aircraft that traditionally lacked a graphical GPS, yet still accommodates practical navigation.
Included Documentation and Checklists
An enclosed folder contains a Garmin 430 user guide, along with checklists adapted to reflect the operational nuances of the Boeing 737-200. These checklists appear in both Word and HTML formats. If you wish to enable the HTML checklist directly in the simulator, place the file in the same aircraft folder, then edit Aircraft.cfg under the appropriate [fltsim.X] section to reference:
kb_checklists=boeing737-200_check
All assets, including the textures and core model, remain fully freeware, reflecting a community collaboration. By following these instructions and configuration steps, simmers can enjoy a classic jetliner environment with modern enhancements, paying tribute to the Boeing 737-200’s storied heritage and the vivid spirit of Dominican Airways.
