Set up NeoFly with MSFS 2024 on PC, connect through SimConnect, launch your first job, and fix aircraft, airport or connection errors.
To set up NeoFly with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, install a NeoFly release that supports MSFS 2024 on the same Windows PC, create a pilot, choose a job, then load the matching aircraft at its departure airport in Free Flight. NeoFly connects to the live simulator through SimConnect and must remain open.
Does NeoFly work with MSFS 2024?
NeoFly works with the PC version of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 when you use a NeoFly build whose release information explicitly lists MSFS 2024 compatibility. An old installer intended only for MSFS 2020 may fail to connect or may not recognise newer aircraft.
NeoFly is an external Windows companion app, not part of MSFS 2024 Career Mode. It does not normally belong in the Community folder, and you do not need to point it at the simulator’s large installation or Packages folder unless the installed NeoFly build specifically asks for one.
This is effectively a PC-only arrangement. The NeoFly Windows application cannot be installed natively on Xbox or PlayStation, and those console versions do not expose the normal PC add-on connection NeoFly expects.
How do I install and connect NeoFly?
The most reliable setup is to configure NeoFly first, then connect only after MSFS 2024 has loaded into a live cockpit.
- Install a compatible NeoFly release. Obtain the installer through the developer’s official distribution channel and use its normal Windows installation process. Do not copy the application into the MSFS
Communityfolder. - Create your NeoFly pilot. On first launch, create a pilot and choose the requested starting options, such as a home airfield and available aircraft. If you are upgrading an existing installation, back up its career data before replacing or removing anything.
- Select a job. Note the departure ICAO code, destination, assigned aircraft, payload and any special conditions. The aircraft must be available both in your NeoFly fleet and in MSFS 2024.
- Load MSFS 2024 in Free Flight. Select the same aircraft and place it at the job’s departure airport. A parking stand is usually safer than an airborne or runway start because NeoFly can confirm that the aircraft is stationary at the correct location.
- Connect from NeoFly. Wait until MSFS has finished loading the cockpit, then use NeoFly’s simulator connection or start-flight control. If your NeoFly build offers a simulator selector, choose MSFS 2024.
- Start the job. Confirm that NeoFly reports the correct aircraft, position and flight state before departing. Keep the application running throughout the flight.
- Complete the recorded flight. Land at the specified destination and satisfy the completion conditions shown by NeoFly, which may include stopping, setting the parking brake or ending the flight from the app.
Which MSFS 2024 settings should I use?
NeoFly needs a normal, trackable Free Flight session rather than an MSFS 2024 Career Mode activity.
| Item | Recommended choice |
|---|---|
| Flight mode | Free Flight |
| Starting position | A ground parking position at the exact departure airport |
| Aircraft | The model and variant assigned by NeoFly |
| Flight plan | Optional unless the job requires one; loading a plan does not replace accepting the job in NeoFly |
| Fuel and payload | Within the limits shown by NeoFly and the aircraft |
| Slew or teleport | Avoid them because they can invalidate position and flight tracking |
| Time acceleration | Use only when the job permits it and NeoFly continues recording correctly |
Do not switch aircraft after NeoFly starts tracking. Assistance settings and autopilot are generally separate from the connection, but mission-specific restrictions shown in NeoFly take precedence.
Why is NeoFly waiting for MSFS 2024?
A persistent waiting or disconnected message usually means NeoFly cannot establish its SimConnect session.
- Load all the way into the cockpit; sitting on the World Map or main menu is not enough.
- Close and reopen NeoFly after the simulator has finished loading.
- Run both applications at the same Windows privilege level. Running one as administrator and the other normally can cause communication problems.
- Allow the trusted NeoFly executable through Windows Firewall on the appropriate private network rather than disabling the firewall.
- Check that only one NeoFly instance is running.
- Replace an older NeoFly build that does not explicitly support MSFS 2024.
MSFS normally supplies the SimConnect interface needed by companion apps, so avoid copying unverified DLL files into Windows system folders. If other companion tools also remain disconnected, follow our SimConnect connection and repair checks before reinstalling the whole simulator.
Why does NeoFly report the wrong aircraft or airport?
Aircraft and airport errors mean the live MSFS state does not match the accepted NeoFly job closely enough.
| Message or symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Aircraft not recognised | Select the exact assigned model and variant. Third-party aircraft or variants with different internal titles may need a supported NeoFly aircraft profile. |
| Wrong aircraft | Do not substitute a visually similar model; NeoFly tracks the aircraft identity and its operating limits. |
| Not at departure airport | Verify the ICAO code and start on the ground inside that airport. Nearby helipads, water starts and airborne starts may count as different positions. |
| Payload or weight rejected | Recheck the job’s cargo, passenger and fuel requirements rather than matching only the total aircraft weight. |
| Job will not finish | Confirm the destination, stop within its accepted area and complete every condition displayed in the mission briefing. |
A livery alone should not change the aeroplane’s capabilities, but some add-ons expose each variant under a different internal aircraft title. Update NeoFly’s supported aircraft data or choose a recognised variant rather than editing aircraft configuration files blindly.
Does NeoFly appear in the MSFS 2024 EFB?
NeoFly normally remains a separate Windows application rather than appearing inside the MSFS 2024 EFB or toolbar.
A flight plan entered in NeoFly may not automatically become the active EFB plan, and a working EFB does not prove that SimConnect is connected. If the simulator’s own tablet is blank or unresponsive, treat that as a separate problem and use our MSFS 2024 EFB troubleshooting steps.
Can NeoFly start automatically with MSFS 2024?
NeoFly can be launched manually, which is the simplest and easiest arrangement to troubleshoot.
Automatic startup is optional and does not improve mission tracking. If you decide to add NeoFly as an external startup application, make a backup first and follow our guide to editing the MSFS exe.xml file safely; a malformed entry can prevent external applications from launching.
If MSFS begins crashing only after NeoFly or another companion app is introduced, test once with the companion closed and then isolate other add-ons. Our MSFS crash-isolation procedure explains how to separate an application conflict from a simulator, driver or Community-folder fault.
