Discover a freeware scenery add-on that reimagines Bisho Airport (FABE) in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. It is developed by Jacques Botha using resources from the default Microsoft Flight Simulator X libraries. Although this package does not replicate the airfield with perfect fidelity, it accurately reflects many of its real-world features. This small airport, located near Bhisho (often spelled Bisho), primarily accommodates limited regional traffic. The layout remains simple, yet this enhanced depiction adds more realism to virtual flights within the simulator.

Visual Enhancements and Core Details

Bisho Airport Scenery.

Bisho Airport scenery presented with default library objects for Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

  • Primary Runway: Recreated using native simulator tools. The real-world facility features a straightforward layout, allowing smaller aircraft to operate comfortably.
  • Aerodrome Surroundings: Nearby terrain and building placements are rendered to match the regional setting, giving pilots an approximate sense of the terrain features around Bhisho.
  • Freeware Status: No purchase or special access is required. This package is entirely free to use.
  • ICAO Code: FABE. To begin a flight directly on-site, select this location from the in-sim menu.

Installation Process

For quick setup, follow these steps:

  1. Extract the compressed Bisho folder to any temporary or work-in-progress directory.
  2. Relocate the unzipped “FABE_Bisho” folder to your simulator’s scenery directory. This directory is usually found inside the main Microsoft Flight Simulator X installation path.
  3. Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator X and open the “Settings” menu from the start screen.
  4. Select “Scenery Library” and choose “Add Area.”
  5. Point the prompt to the folder where “FABE_Bisho” is located, then confirm your selection.
  6. After refreshing, allow the simulator to load the new files. Once completed, navigate to the “Free Flight” menu and find “FABE” for your departure.

Once installed, you can explore the enhanced environment by launching from Bisho Airport and flying around the Eastern Cape region. Enjoy!
