This package refines the Gerona (LEGE) airport environment in Spain for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Its design incorporates up-to-date chart data, accurate stands, and calibrated PAPI and approach lighting for safer operations. Created by Oscar Caravaca, it is offered as a freeware solution to enhance default scenery while reproducing essential airport details.
Runway Adjustments and Taxiway Placement
Within this AFCAD2 layout, the runway geometry follows the latest published data from AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea). Refined taxiway alignments ensure straightforward ground navigation, and detailed markings delineate each path effectively. These modifications allow flight crews, virtual or otherwise, to maneuver under various visibility conditions with greater precision.

Gate Configuration and Ground Parking
This revised airport file introduces thoroughly categorized parking areas, including gates that align with real-world specifications. In addition, each gate follows practical separation standards, reducing the likelihood of aircraft overlap or congestion. Frequent flyers in Gerona—both passenger carriers and executive flights—will appreciate the fidelity to current airline operations at this Spanish airfield.
Improved Landing Indicators
Relocated PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) units guide inbound pilots more accurately toward the touchdown zone. Simultaneously, the adjusted approach lights offer superior visual cues, which can be especially beneficial during evening or adverse weather arrivals. These improvements emulate real-world procedures to help flight simulation enthusiasts replicate authentic workflows.
Installation Procedure
- Extract the AF2_LEGE.bgl file from this package.
- Place AF2_LEGE.bgl inside the “Addon Scenery\Scenery” subfolder of your main simulator directory.
- Relaunch Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 if it is currently running.
After these steps, you will notice the revised airport layout immediately, without additional configuration.
Supplementary Chart References
Included PDF charts illustrate the latest runway headings, taxi paths, and parking stands. Printing these documents is recommended for anyone who prefers an easy reference guide. They also facilitate more realistic ground operations and enhance situational awareness around the airport’s perimeter.
Creators and Acknowledgments
This enhancement was developed by Oscar Caravaca, building on modernized aviation data from AENA. It integrates the excellent AFCAD software by Lee Swordy, which serves as the backbone of the file-modification process. Many thanks go to these talented developers for their indispensable tools and expertise.
