Fix GSX Pro not loading in MSFS 2024 by checking Couatl, Community links, security blocks, profiles, toolbar issues and PC compatibility.
GSX Pro usually fails to load in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 because its Couatl background process is not running, the installer linked GSX to the wrong Community folder, security software blocked an executable, or an old aircraft/airport profile is crashing it. On consoles, GSX Pro cannot load at all; it requires the Windows PC version.
Does GSX Pro work with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?
GSX Pro works with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Windows PC when its simulator package and external Couatl engine are correctly installed. It cannot run on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro because consoles do not support the required Windows background programme.

Which part of GSX is failing to load?
The symptom usually identifies whether the fault lies with the simulator package, Couatl or a specific profile.

How do I fix GSX Pro stuck on loading?
- Confirm that you are on Windows PC. There is no troubleshooting workaround that can make GSX Pro run on an Xbox or PlayStation console.
- Close both MSFS 2024 and Couatl. Exit the simulator, then use the Windows system tray or Task Manager to confirm that an orphaned Couatl process is not still running.
- Update and repair GSX. Run its authorised installer, select Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and apply all available component updates. Follow our GSX Pro update and repair procedure if the installer reports missing or outdated files.
- Verify the active Community folder. MSFS installations can use different package locations depending on the edition and any custom path chosen during setup. Let the GSX installer recreate its package links; do not manually copy GSX into several Community folders, because duplicate packages can conflict.
- Check Windows Security and antivirus history. Couatl may appear installed while its executable has actually been quarantined. Restore or permit it only when the file came from the authorised GSX installer, and use a narrowly scoped exception rather than disabling protection altogether.
- Run a controlled test. Load a stock aircraft at a parking stand or gate at a stock airport. Wait until the flight has fully loaded, then open the simulator toolbar. Starting on a runway can make services unavailable, but it should not leave the GSX panel permanently loading.
- Start or restart Couatl. Use the installed Couatl shortcut or the relevant command offered by the GSX installer. If the process immediately closes again, return to the security and repair checks instead of repeatedly launching it.
- Disable custom GSX profiles temporarily. An old aircraft or airport profile can crash Couatl or produce failures limited to one add-on. Our aircraft and airport profile guidance explains how to isolate profile conflicts.
- Test with a minimal Community folder. Temporarily remove unrelated third-party packages while retaining GSX and its required support components. Add the other packages back in small groups once GSX loads normally.
Why is the GSX toolbar icon missing when Couatl is running?
A running Couatl process does not prove that the in-simulator GSX package was loaded. The toolbar icon depends on the GSX package being linked to the Community folder actually used by MSFS 2024 when that session started.
Repair the package link with the installer, remove any duplicate GSX copies and restart the whole simulator. Adding or repairing the package while a flight is already open normally requires a complete restart before the toolbar component appears.
If the icon appears but never progresses beyond its loading message, concentrate on Couatl, security software and profile conflicts rather than changing toolbar visibility settings.
Why does GSX work at one airport but not another?
Airport-specific GSX failures usually come from a stale profile or conflicting versions of the same scenery. A profile made for a different airport version can reference parking stands, jetways or service positions that no longer exist.
- Test the airport with its custom GSX profile disabled.
- Check that only one version of the airport scenery is active.
- Try the same aircraft at a stock airport to separate an airport fault from an aircraft configuration problem.
- If the menu opens but reports that no suitable parking position or service is available, GSX itself has loaded; the stand or profile is the issue.
What if MSFS 2024 itself hangs after installing GSX?
If Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 stops before reaching the cockpit, treat the problem as a package conflict or damaged installation rather than a toolbar fault. Remove GSX temporarily and test the same flight; if it loads, repair GSX and restore only its required packages before reintroducing profiles and other add-ons.
