Is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PS5 or PS5 Pro?
Yes. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched natively on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro on 8 December 2025, after its original PC and Xbox Series X|S release on 19 November 2024. It is the first Microsoft Flight Simulator released for a PlayStation console; Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 never came to PlayStation.
Is the PS5 version native or cloud-streamed?
It is a native PS5 application, not an Xbox Cloud Gaming stream. The simulator runs on the console itself and must be installed like any other PS5 game.
A reliable internet connection still matters because Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 downloads updates and streams substantial amounts of world data. Live weather, multiplayer and other online services also depend on connectivity, but that does not make the PS5 edition a cloud-only game.
Which PlayStation models can run MSFS 2024?
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 runs on both PS5 and PS5 Pro, but there is no native PS4 version.
- PlayStation 5: Supported natively, including the standard PS5 family.
- PS5 Pro: Supported natively. It runs the same core simulator, aircraft and Career Mode; a separate Flight Simulator product is not required.
- PlayStation 4: Not supported as a native release.
PS5 Pro is therefore optional rather than a requirement. Visual or performance options may change with simulator updates, so we would not buy the Pro expecting a guaranteed fixed resolution or frame rate that has not been explicitly documented for the installed version.
The other common source of confusion is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. That edition remains limited to PC and Xbox, while the 2024 simulator is the first entry available on PlayStation. For the competing console route, our Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass availability guide explains the native and subscription options.
The DualSense controller can be used on PS5, but specialist flight sticks, throttles and rudder pedals must explicitly support PlayStation 5. Xbox and PC USB hardware is not automatically compatible; check our MSFS 2024 controller compatibility guidance before buying peripherals.
Can PS5 use PC mods and Marketplace add-ons?
PS5 can use add-ons released for its console Marketplace, but it cannot install PC Community-folder mods. There is no user-accessible Community folder for copying aircraft, liveries or scenery onto the console.
Do not assume that an add-on labelled “MSFS 2024 compatible” also supports PS5. Availability depends on the publisher, licensing, console approval and whether the product relies on external PC software. Purchases and entitlements may also be platform-specific, so verify the PS5 listing before paying. Our explanation of how the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace handles console add-ons covers those restrictions in more detail.
Does MSFS 2024 support PSVR2 on PS5?
Microsoft announced PSVR2 support as a free update arriving in 2026; PSVR2 was not included in the original PS5 launch build. Owning a PS5 Pro does not enable VR by itself—you also need the PSVR2 hardware and the simulator update containing PlayStation VR support.
If VR is your main reason for buying, confirm that the relevant update has been installed rather than assuming the base PS5 release includes it. Peripheral and aircraft usability in VR should also be checked separately from ordinary flat-screen support.
