Enhance your flying adventures near Cocoa Beach, Florida with this freeware rendition of Patrick Air Force Base (KCOF) specifically tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Developed by Jim Cook, this release refines and expands the default layout to create a more realistic and operational airfield environment without requiring any additional object libraries.
Refined Airfield Configuration
The layout includes carefully positioned Military Cargo parking spots and customized aprons, which extend to the fire station. These adjustments utilize stock assets to add a variety of static vehicles, including fork trucks and support trucks, plus authentic parking lots filled with cars. The active taxiways have been realigned to match official AirNav diagrams and observations from satellite data (satellite data refers to imagery resources such as Google Earth).
Authentic Military Details
Patrick Air Force Base, situated on Florida’s Atlantic coastline, plays host to various flight operations. In this add-on, multiple helipads have been introduced to accommodate rotorcraft activities often seen at active Air Force installations. These enhancements align closely with real-world data to give users a deeper sense of immersion.
Compatible With Popular Enhancements
Jim Cook designed this scenery to operate flawlessly alongside well-known supplements such as Just Flight’s Military Plus Packs, ensuring an expanded variety of military aircraft populate the ramps. Additionally, Ultimate Terrain and FSGenesis landclass mesh solutions complement the base scenery but remain entirely optional for those who want to maintain default configurations.
Simple Deployment
After extracting the two .bgl files (AFX_KCOF_JC.bgl
and KCOF_JC.bgl
), move them into the “Addon Scenery/Scenery” folder found within your simulator directory. Then reload Microsoft Flight Simulator X to see the newly improved Patrick AFB in action. No extra libraries are necessary since all objects utilized are part of the default installation.
Future Development
Jim Cook intends to develop additional military bases as time permits, ensuring that virtual pilots can discover and practice operations at other strategic locations in forthcoming updates.
