Wheeler-Sack Army Air Field (KGTB) at Fort Drum, New York gets a realistic overhaul for FSX with refined aprons, roads, and taxiways, plus added military parking. Updated buildings, repositioned control tower, fire station, parking lots, lightpoles, and static vehicles and helicopters bring the base to life using only stock objects.

Wheeler-Sack Army Air Field (KGTB), Fort Drum, New York (NY). An improved version with adjust aprons, roads and taxiways. Also included added parking, replaced buildings, static vehicles and more. By Jim Cook.

Wheeler-Sack Army Air Field Scenery.

Wheeler-Sack Army Air Field Scenery.

Here is an improved version of the stock Wheeler-Sack AAF. I adjusted and added aprons, roads and taxiways to more closely match real life. I added Military_combat and Military_cargo parking spaces. I replaced most buildings and added additional buildings. I replaced and moved the control tower, added the fire station, parking lots, static vehicles and helicopters, lightpoles, and other objects.

Fort Drum is home to the 10th Mountain Division and it houses an air-to-ground gunnery range which is used by the 174th Fighter Wing of the NY National Guard out of Syracuse, NY.

I use Ultimate Terrain and FSGenesis landclass but they are not required. All objects are stock FSX so no additional object libraries are needed. Updates made using AirNav diagrams and Google Earth to be as accurate as possible. All work done with Flight 1's AFX program and Instant Scenery.

INSTALLATION:

Extract the two files KGTB_AFX_JC.bgl and KGTB_JC.bgl into your Addon Scenery/Scenery folder, re-start FSX and enjoy.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

Nice Job, I was a frequent visitor of Ft. Drum while in a Field Artillery Unit. I've chosen to fly out of there many times in FSX. It was lame, I will be flying out with something other than helicopters now. Thanks!
