This repaint showcases the historic OK-AIB Douglas DC-2 as operated by Ceskoslovenska Letecka Spolecnost (C.L.S.), complete with a faithful exterior livery that captures the charm of this 1930s twin-engine airliner. Designed for the payware Douglas DC-2 package by the Uiver Team X, all proceeds from that package help support the Aviodrome, a Dutch aviation museum and theme park. Developed by Tim Scharnhop, this modification aims to recreate the era when C.L.S. expanded its scheduled routes, including flights to Vienna, using the versatile DC-2.

An Exploration of Vintage European Air Travel

The Douglas DC-2 emerged in the early 1930s as a groundbreaking passenger transport, renowned for its improved performance and comfortable cabin layout. Ceskoslovenska Letecka Spolecnost introduced this particular aircraft—registered as OK-AIB—to serve pivotal European routes. Seeing this aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator X brings a piece of mid-20th-century aviation heritage into the modern sim environment.

Key Visual Enhancements and Historic Details

  • Accurate OK-AIB registration markings: Reflecting the authentic color schemes and font styles used by C.L.S.
  • Historic airline elements: Includes period-correct logos and liveries celebrating Czech aviation milestones of that time.
  • Tailored for the payware DC-2 model: Requires the Uiver Team X Douglas DC-2 (available from payware outlets such as SimShack), ensuring the overall fidelity of the aircraft’s geometry, cockpit, and systems.
  • Optimized for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Takes advantage of FSX’s specific rendering features to achieve smoother visuals and realistic lighting, while retaining backward compatibility with the original DC-2 package files.

Installation Guidelines for Your Simulator

Before installation, confirm that you already have the Douglas DC-2 package by the Uiver Team X set up under a standard directory path, typically located within “Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes”. Below is the recommended approach:

  1. Unzip dc2X_cls.ZIP into a temporary folder while preserving the folder structure.
  2. Transfer the texture.cls folder to the Douglas_DC2_X directory inside your primary simulator’s “Airplanes” folder.
  3. If you possess the latest DC-2X update (dated 12/31/2010), proceed without additional steps. If not, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to benefit from various enhancements.
  4. Open the aircraft.cfg file in a plain text editor. Navigate to the last [fltsim.XX] entry and add the following lines, making sure to increment the XX to the next available number:

    [fltsim.XX]

Developer Contributions and Acknowledgments

The following individuals and teams devoted immense effort to bring this package to life. The flight dynamics were refined by Tom Falley and Rob Cappers. The core 3D model was shaped by Alexander Schreijnders, Jan Visser, and Rob Cappers while textures were managed by Tim Scharnhop, Gerrit Kranenbarg, and Jan Visser. The virtual cockpit and interior detail owe much to Rob Cappers, Tim Scharnhop, and Jan Visser, with HansJörg Naegele spearheading XML & DLL coding. Gauge bitmaps were again handled by Rob Cappers and Tim Scharnhop. Modern avionics sourced from Simflyer were integrated by HansJörg Naegele, while special effects were provided by Roland Berger.
