No, Train Sim World does not have multiplayer, co-op or shared-world sessions. Timetable services, scenarios and Free Roam are single-player, even when you are signed into online services. AI trains are not controlled by other people, and you cannot pair a human driver with a human guard or dispatcher.
What do Train Sim World's online features actually do?
Train Sim World's online features exchange account and community data; they do not place players on the same railway. Depending on the release and platform, these features can include:
- Dovetail Live: profile-linked progress and Mastery features where offered.
- Creators Club: shared user-created liveries and scenarios. Once downloaded, they run inside your own single-player session.
- AI timetable traffic: other trains follow computer-controlled services rather than representing connected players.
An internet connection may therefore be needed for certain services or downloads, but that does not make them multiplayer. There is also no supported route DLC, add-on or mod that switches multiplayer on; synchronising trains, signals and player roles requires networking built into the core simulator.
Can two people play together in Free Roam?
No. Free Roam is a sandbox within one player's session, not a server lobby or shared route. It lets you place trains and create paths, but every other active service remains computer-controlled; our guide to setting up a Free Roam session explains the solo tools available.
Two people can watch, take turns or pass the controls, but Train Sim World has no split-screen mode and does not assign separate roles. Even where conductor or guard gameplay is provided, it is a solo role with an AI-operated train rather than a second human driver.

Is multiplayer available on PC, PlayStation or Xbox?

Shared community creations, where available, should not be confused with cross-play. Players exchange content, not trains, cabs or live railway traffic.
