Instrument coverage

Pago Pago International’s four approach charts concentrate several forms of guidance on two of the airport’s four runway ends. The published mix combines ILS and localiser procedures with two RNAV (GPS) approaches and a VOR procedure. The field therefore has several instrument methods overall, but coverage does not extend to every runway end.

Runway proportions

The runway pair is markedly uneven: 05/23 extends 10,001 ft, whereas 08/26 is 3,801 ft. Aircraft needing more than 3,801 ft are consequently confined to 05/23, making it the only strip providing the field’s full runway-length capacity.
