Cessna 172 Skyhawk C-GBEL brings an authentic Canadian training look to the A2A C172 Trainer with crisp, high-resolution textures, accurate registration markings, and a convincingly reflective finish with subtle weathering. This package supplies high-fidelity textures representing a genuine Canadian-registered Cessna 172 Skyhawk, designated C-GBEL. It has been crafted by developer Richard Luycx for use with the payware A2A Simulations C172 Trainer in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The add-on includes only the repaint files and requires the original payware model from A2A Simulations, which can be purchased through providers such as SimShack. Its design pays close attention to authentic markings, offering virtual pilots a realistic livery that matches a real-world aircraft widely used in training operations across Canada.

Integrated Visual Detailing

A2A Simulations’ rendition of the C172 allows for truly detailed graphics. This new texture set leverages the model’s high-resolution surfaces to showcase the unique striping, registration lettering, and proper color gradients of C-GBEL. Additionally, reflective finishes and subtle weathering cues combine to deliver a natural look that closely aligns with real Cessna 172 Skyhawks flying in Canadian airspace.

Installation Workflow

  1. Extract all files from the downloaded package into a temporary folder.
  2. Locate your A2A_C172 directory. Typically, this folder path exists under:
    ...\Microsoft Flight Simulator X > SimObjects > Airplanes > A2A_C172
Copy the folder named texture.CGBEL into this A2A_C172 directory.
  3. Open the aircraft.cfg file in the same A2A_C172 directory. Insert the following block of text (while adjusting the “XX” placeholder to the next sequential entry):

Notable Aircraft Background

The Cessna 172 family has enjoyed a reputation for reliability and straightforward handling since its introduction in the mid-1950s. This four-seat, single-engine aircraft remains a prime choice for flight academies worldwide thanks to its stable flight characteristics. In Canada, the 172 has particularly strong popularity due to its durability in diverse weather conditions. This specific registration, C-GBEL, showcases a typical private or training liveried variant.

Development Credits & Final Notes

This repaint was created by Richard Luycx and incorporates an authentic scheme found on real 172 airframes in Canada. It is targeted at enthusiasts seeking to expand their virtual hangar with regionally accurate paint jobs. Installation across different simulator installations should remain the same, though it is essential to ensure the correct directory path in order for the textures to load seamlessly. Be sure you own and have installed the A2A Simulations C172 beforehand, as this repaint requires the original payware model.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
