Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This meticulously crafted package offers a detailed representation of Kenmore Air’s DeHavilland DHC3 Turbo Otter floatplane within Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It includes a vivid “evening” paint scheme by Cirrus Productions, a model outfitted with full animations, and a virtual cockpit (VC) that presents a fully equipped cabin. Users will find that its short takeoff and landing (STOL) attributes, combined with a 12-passenger capacity, deliver a realistic simulation of this high-utility aircraft. Developed by Premier Aircraft Design’s talented team of creators—Barry Blaisdell, Jean-Pierre Brisard, Bob May, Danny Crance, and Kevin Pardy—this freeware offering maintains accuracy and performance for flight simulation enthusiasts.

Highlights of the Turbo Otter Adaptation

Advanced Modeling: This edition arrives with vibrant materials and dynamic shine, which highlight every surface and rivet in a believable manner. The developers included intricate control surface mechanisms and float elements to mirror the real-world Turbo Otter’s amphibious structure.

Unique Livery: Cirrus Productions contributed a specialized “evening” livery and color-coordinated interior, capturing the essence of Kenmore Air’s branding while also infusing an eye-catching aesthetic across the aircraft’s profile.

Cabin Access and Details: A fully modeled and interactive passenger area features opening crew exits, cargo doors, and a detailed layout that replicates the actual interior of a DeHavilland DHC3. This approach delivers immersive experiences whether you’re seated in the pilot’s position or roaming the virtual cabin.

Panel Configuration and Virtual Cockpit Environment

In addition to a fully functional 2D panel, the interior includes an accurately textured virtual cockpit that showcases clear instrumentation, switch placements, and pilot controls. This arrangement helps pilots practice short runway operations while navigating scenic harbors, fjords, and remote strips—much like Kenmore Air does in the Pacific Northwest.

Installation is streamlined: extract all files from the downloaded ZIP folder directly into the main FSX directory. For optimal compatibility, ensure that Acceleration or Service Pack 2 is activated in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Flight Dynamics and Gauge Resources

This Turbo Otter’s flight dynamic engine (FDE), originally devised by Eugene Heyart in 2003, was updated with permission by Danny Crance. Further gauge and instrument contributions come from several leading designers:

  • Gauge Credits: Barry Blaisdell, Jean-Pierre Brisard, Bob May, and Microsoft FSX
  • XML Programming, DH3 CABs, Gauge Repainting, 2D Panel & VC Painting: Real Brousseau
  • Special DHC3 Gauges: Jean-Pierre Langer & Arne Bartels
  • Ground Handling Gauge: Provided by Rob Barendregt, used with permission
  • Davtron M803 Digital Clock/O.A.T. Gauge: Serguei Gorelik
  • Additional Artwork and Panel Textures: Henk Arents, Cirrus Productions

All collaborators worked tirelessly to ensure that cockpit instrumentation, autopilot behaviors, and engine parameters align with real-world design specifications.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place files per the readme

Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
